We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
While I'm sure Mr. Kesler is an "exceptionally" intelligent man, occasionally you will read something that just rings of intellectual laziness or sloppy thinking. The folks at Powerline quote Kesler as saying "this exceptional president" in reference to Obama. Here is the definition of exceptional via dictionary.com:
1. forming an exception or rare instance; unusual; extraordinary: The warm weather was exceptional for January.
2. unusually excellent; superior: an exceptional violinist.
3. Education. (of a child) a. being intellectually gifted.
b. being physically or esp. mentally handicapped to an extent that special schooling is required.
How is one to conclude that Obama fits under any of these definitions? Who knows; he may convert the U.S. into a "workers paradise" in 4-8 years. Then he most definitely would meet the definition. But why does a man of Kesler's obvious intelligence and knowledge concede this characterization after Obama has 3 weeks in office!?! If conservatives really do believe they have a culture and traditions to defend they only assist in their own destruction by using this kind of terminology. Stop, already!
