We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
“...liberalism and conservatism are countervailing tendencies, each bestowing benefits on the group, but standing alone and unchecked, they would, indeed, descend into madness.”
One reason might be purity tribalism and resultant purges (LGF bans its creationist Christians, Freepers bans its Bush skeptics, despite all the other commonality of belief and purpose...) Ideas spawned from adversity cease to happen.
Another is of course, the undemocratic concentration of power which dark side politicians are drawn to like moths to flame, which rewards power over competency every time, becoming a game between megalomaniacs who couldn’t care less about non-players.

We ban nobody. we just want things civil and intellectually honest. I am still waiting to be convinced that Socialism will work. I'll quit working and collect my check, weed the flower garden, and drink beer.
But in the mighty ole USSR the streets were paved with vodka? Alright, if Chile's any example, even the saner socialisms suck. But it might be in the future (said as the commander adjusts his Alvin Toffler - Kurt Vonnegut - Aldous Huxley space helmet).

Centrist position of reasonableness is same old lies, lies, lies.
"Centrist" is a very poor descriptor. Karl Rove claims to be centrist. So does Al Gore. I see both as self-serving operative politicians, who use a base of support for their own reasons.

Speaking of which..
McCain is sometimes seen as a centrist. He was a self proclaimed leading proponent of the bank stimulus/bailout. Now he’s trying to be the leading opponent of the current stimulus/bailout? Maverick without pragmatic is one goose short of a top gun pilot.
On what website do these guys spell all their stuff out? With comments maybe? Or is that too “utopian” of me to ask?
