We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Real Estate: West 81st Street

My mentioning a pied a terre in Manhattan motivated me to locate this nice little 2 BR place on West 81st, facing the Museum of Natural History. I want this (photo of LR with working fireplace).


They are asking $1.2 million. Details here.


I used to own a 1 BR place with doorman on West 82, but that was long ago. Bought it for $62,000. and, had I kept it, it would have been the best investment I ever made.

You don't want that one, Bird Dog. Just look at the picture of the outside of the building. No fire escapes you could use to haul up the firewood for that fireplace. And the sidewalk isn't big enough to stack much wood anyhow.

Had a gf back in the day who had a (condo) corner apartment on W.82 and Central Park W. It must be worth a bundle now.

same here would have made a small fortune had I bought the apartements back then ..... dont think i like what the west side has become for that matter nyc in general...you can't even get a decent plate of fried trans fat with a side of salt and a smoke.
