We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Good links. And nicely put. I almost don't need to read the links to see that many challenges lie ahead. But... we can meet them if given half a chance. We'll see I guess.

The Global Warming Fraud article linked above is one of the best I have read recently. My husband and I have been following the development of this fraud since the early 1990s, receiving Fred S. Singer's newsletter on the subject weekly. Singer, a respected scientist before this 'con' got going, has been trashed over and over again by the Global Warmingists and their Ilk. We've watched the slow growth of the consensus among reasonable people that something hinky is happening here -- that this is the Great Con Game. Like the "stimulus bill," which is the Liberal Left's wish list for government take-over, the Global Warming fraud is another way to assert government control over everything in your life which used to be your own decision.

1984 ought to be required reading for your children, and suggested re-reading for all of us. It's becoming clearer every day that it's happening now in the halls of Congress, soon to be right in your own neighborhood.

Is it just me? After a mere 10 days in office it has become abundantly clear to me that The One is just more of the same old, same old, and that there really is nothing new under the sun. Not even close for an Oscar nomination. I am so unimpressed. I think he is a puppet whose scripts were heretofore written by his handlers behind the scenes. Watching his public appearances he shows very little of what the army calls "command presence", that sine qua non of leaders he seemed to convey so convincingly from a script in the campaign. Now that it is improvisation with no rehearsal, this guy can't deliver. Lot's of ums, ahs, you knows, as he tries to imagine what the script should be. How is this going to restore confidence in the real world where the real players are never fooled for long?

Michael Steele is great. Top attribute on the list: He has a sense of humor and does not take himself too seriously. And he's classy. I hope he shines, and I think he will.

They hate Palin because she knew she was carrying a Downes baby halfway thru her pregnancy, and not only chose to bear him, is now full of joy over him, and in fact is treating the whole thing as if it's not even tragic.

That and she sent another son to fight for colored people who don't even contribute money to the Democratic party at all.

How can they not hate her?

Yes, quite agree on Michael Steele. I've seen him a number of times on FoxNews and he is unfailingly polite, relaxed, and witty, obviously a man comfortable in his own skin. A leader who has a ready sense of humor and does not take him/herself too seriously is reassuring to me. Just imagine the unreal pressure that The One is under? It must be torture every day to go out there and live up to his press notices, wondering just how long it will be before "our first affirmative action President" is whispered in the WH Press Room. You know it's coming. And that Spinmeister press secretary, Gibbs, so obviously full of himself, I find more than a little annoying.

We will see if Michael Steele emerges as a conservative or a RINO.

I am not sure which way it will break.

If he continues to take the Republican Party down the RINO path, then the Republican Party is doomed. America will be as well unless a new party can rise from the ashes.

Conservative principles need to be articulated, explained and defended. That is the only thing that will differentiate the parties going forward.

Time is short and the water is rising!

When Lyndon Johnson caved, in response to civil unrest, the first page of a MasterPlan was drafted. It has taken forty five years of planing and indoctrination, aided by Hollywood the NEA and the MSM to complete the plan. The events of today, not only in Washington but across the culture and nation is the begining of the end-game of that MasterPlan... Riots and the Threats of riots was the loaded and cocked Gun placed at the temple of each president following L.B.J... Race Bating organizations, Community Organizors, Shake Down Artist, etc...along the choir of entitled whiners with their never ending list demands of the government for their Fair Share of the pie, has at last fired the starters pistol.

Every President has known about the Blackmail Gun of course... but - It remains a topic that could not/cannot be discussed or even mentioned. No president has been able to find way to deal with the unmentionable topic effectively because the template had been set by LBJ,-cave-! ( Reagan tried).
Most wanted to complete his term, put the door keys in an envelope, and return home unscathed .... and if ever asked about the Gun, deny or say he wasn't aware of any pressure.

So now we're on the base leg with the fastest and best trained dope smoker, holding the baton, pumping his arms and sprinting for the finish line, just as fast as the MSM is able to push him...
Wait, listen .... feel the excitement, hear the roar.

Yes, Michael Steele appears to sing from the right hymnbook but let's see if he walks the walk. One thing for sure: If he veers off into RINO territory the RNC should revolt prior to 2010. We know the playbook that works and it ain't RINO, even if we stay in the wilderness for a while longer.

Speaking of RINO's, Sen Judd Gregg's apparent departure means he could see the handwriting on the wall for 2010 and that the NH delegation would go all Dem. All Democrats in the "Live Free or Die" State?! The Horror! By the way, what could be criticized about this state motto?! It says it all, doesn't it?

We Green Mtneers used to look to NH for sanity but those days appear to be over. Anyway, Judd Gregg can be added to that list of Lords who go to Washington and love the cushy life so much they'll do about anything to stay on. I keep thinking we should move the seat of government to Omaha as a rational solution for a smaller carbon footprint.
