We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
This is a great quote. Thatcher was a great politician who was at the same time a moral politician. Sounds impossible, doesn't it, given our Congress. But she was.
She had a lot of personal guts too. One time she was scheduled to give a speech at a seminar outside London somewhere, and since it ws an all-day or two-day seminar, she had taken a hotel room in the seminar hotel. Irish bad guys set off a bomb which pretty much trashed her hotel room while she was getting dressed in the bathroom. She finished dressing, picked her way across the bombed out room to the door, went down and gave her speech.
My kind of woman. Nothing diverted her from what she viewed as her duty.
