Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Let's all pay real close attention to this one from the Campaigning is not Governing link:
It is extraordinary that current Senate staffers would work for the executive branch nominee [Holder] — a fundamental violation of the separation between the branches of government. These aides are employed by and paid by the Senate, which is supposed to be performing its institutional obligation to examine and, if appropriate, confirm the executive branch’s nominees. Granted they are of the same party as the incoming administration, but are key aides of the senators — who are supposed to be evaluating the qualifications, character and experience of the nominee – appropriately tasked with double duty to make sure Holder gets through that evaluation unscathed? Do they write and answer the questions for the nominee? And why would they be permitted to do all this on the Senate’s payroll? A Capitol Hill insider had this to say: I can’t think of another example of a current Senate staffer facilitating a nominee’s confirmation. If the Senate is really conducting an independent review of the nominee, doesn’t this arrangement undermine it? Would you ever let a judge’s legal clerk act as the lawyer for a defendant? That’s why we have conflict of interest restrictions for lawyers. It only adds to irony that it is Holder’s own alleged conflicts of interest which will be at issue in his hearing. If this arrangement plays out without any official opposition, we will witness the first blatant abuse of power in The Øne's emerging administration. If he can get away with it on an Attorney General hearing, the green light will be on. RE: Massachusetts health insurance....
The referenced article states "If this sounds just like Canadian-style socialized medicine, that’s because it is." Must say, I do not agree. As far as I can tell the Massachusetts system is nothing like the Canadian system. I have used the Canadian and the American systems and the assumptions, myths and half truths on both sides of the border about the others health care systems are rampant. Since the USA is going to have this debate soon, people need to learn the facts. Time to Google "Canadian health care" and study up. A BBC study long ago found that the British were about 50/50 on whether adequately trained dogs should be allowed to drive.
Do muslims destroy everything they touch?
My boys all loved the pirate mythos growing up, donning eye patches and swords, even constructing the S.S. Spirit, a pirate ship tree fort that floated high above the ground in the back yard, with the trampoline directly beneath for battles that required abandoning ship. To want to be a pirate when one grew up was a normal component of boyhood. Now the clownish muslim pirates are disgracing that higher calling... sheesh. I am beginning to believe the Middle East desert must have been a verdant nirvana before idiot islam got a hold of it. Instant Karma's gonna get you,
Gonna knock you right on the head, You better get yourself together, Pretty soon you're gonna be dead, I think those pirates should switch religions. Buddhism would be a fine place to start bein' as how they already got their karma. ` Paraphrasing the famed graffiti from Portland Maine circa 1978:
Their karma ran over their dogma. or maybe work at major airports for tips, where you could be dancing and twirling, chanting & humming with tambourines changling, singing ... my sweet Lord, Ooooh my Lord ...
you might still be Alive & Kicking George TM Harrison Have an older accounant (CPA) look through the Federal legislation that changed the GAAP--look at the legislation that was presented that made it possible to roll CEO payouts, shares plans purchases, etc. into the "next year after" costs of doing business. This made it possible for CEO's to scrape everything they could into their pockets and still look like they were jumping ship with a high income to cost ratio. That little piece of legislation was introduced some where around 1995-97 (approx) and if I am not mistaken that came from Dodd. I would love to have the correct info on this--memory is a little fuzzy on this one!
I theorize that P’s will care more about their kids when there’s more for them to live for.
1. Jordanian P’s average over 5X the wages of P’s in Gaza. Israeli P’s average over 10X the wages of P’s in Gaza. Canadian P’s average over 20X the wages of P’s in Gaza. extrapolated from GDP per cap and employment numbers 2. Jordanian P’s average 1/5th the nuttiness of Gaza Ps. Israeli P’s average 1/10th the nuttiness of Gaza Ps. Canadian P’s average 1/20th the nuttiness of Gaza Ps. extrapolated from news reports I see about terrorism and war. 3. Until I get better sources, and some good egghead support, this shall henceforth be known as: “Clopfelters Corollary About Them Nutty Ps.” Enclosing asterisks marks text as bold.

And there you have... there is no hope for a people whose concern and care of their own children depends upon their financial opportunity. They should climb out of their nutty ideological/theological cave and join Western Civilization... it would give them hope... and change. Dufus question: Do Muslims practice birth control? My mind can't stray from the thought of a couple having a baby when they have no life. Ugh.... I know I sound stupid considering third world countries suffer more when they don't have birth control.
Please excuse me for being reasonable. I know it's passe. Is the universal average I.Q. down to 70 yet? ` My mind can't stray from the thought of a couple having a baby when they have no life.
What a perfectly Chestertonian paradox! Bravo!! ah, Chesterton. A current fave:

Maybe the Israelis could drop copies of 'Atlas Shrugged' over Gaza. Okay. Start with 'My Pet Goat' first.

Of course the future belongs to the strong F-1, the hybrid vigor of the new world. on letting your dog drive --fine, go ahead, but take it from me do NOT give him the keys on the weekend --he won't show back up 'til 4 or 5 a.m. Monday, and your car will be a complete mess. They can drive, but they're not GOOD drivers, and should some bitch drive by in heat, well, all that 'sit, heel, roll over' training just goes out the window.
Our lab tends to tailgate, but she has good parking karma - rounds the block 6 or 7 times and she always finds a place to park it.
Tailgating --I've noticed that about Labs. Chihuahuas too get a rap for driving down the highway signalling left turn. Honestly tho i don't think they can steer without standing on the blinker handle so that is really kind of an unfair aspersions.
yep, re circling the block 6 or 7 times, it's a pisser when there's plenty of spaces at first but they're all filled by the time he's done circling. Stupid --but then well, they're just dogs. |
