We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
In the interest of improving the bird interest among our readers, a reader took this photo this week of these hardy shorebirds on the CT coast, not yet in their breeding plumage. Can you name it?
All of the above are incorrect. That is the official bird of January, the Conneticut Cold Mother F'er. After a week or two in this condition, they migrate to FL, where they are locally known as the Whiny Mother F'er. If they do not migrate back, their plumage becomes a plaid lower with a white belt, and they are call Retired Mother F'er's. You do NOT want to see a Retired Mother F'er in breeding plumage.
