We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
It's like the way a friend posts endless food porn on her Facebook page to the effect that "I am drinking a salted caramel drink at Starbucks...I am longing for a cookie....I wish I had some chocolate (she is diabetic so I guess it's a way of coping?)"
For some shady company that likes twitter, check this out http://irevolution.wordpress.com/tag/twitter/ Somewhere else (no time to check, have to make dinner) there is stuff on people potentially tracking an army (ours, because we allow many freedoms to our troops) by monitoring twitter type communications....If you get a high enough volume of agitated or twitchy or nervous communiques the enemy can figure out that SOMETHING is up.
Twitter is stupid. It is a tool for the most completely vapid, headline driven, uninformed boobs on the planet.
I keep my Facebook "updated" on a moderately regular basis - maybe 2/3 times a week, and EVEN THAT is too much. Why anyone would want to use Twitter is beyond me....unless they are completely self-absorbed or obsessed with the meaningless drivel from other peoples' lives.
I hate being judgemental in things like this, because it is possible that someday Twitter could be "the coolest app" the internet provided. But I really doubt it. I mean even social networking sites have hit their peak and I think most will either die off or consolidate and their usage will diminish. My 13 year old son rarely goes on his MySpace anymore after spending the better part of a year on it. Twitter? He has no interest.
In this rare case, I will be judgemental. It is a hopeless, useless tool and will eventually lose its core audience.
I have a friend who twitters. After reading some of her posts/twits/whatever, I thought it made her seem so much shallower than I know she really is. But it's not the Twitterer that is saddest, it's the one who reads their twits. Talk about needing to get a life...
I have found some use for it as a way to post links to interesting content in a more casual way than using a blog or del.icio.us. I keep to one specific topic, which tends to attract more regular "readers."
I have not found an efficient way to follow many people with the Twitter site. If there is a Twitter user I want to follow, I find that the easiest way to do it is to add their individual feed to my RSS reader.
Similar to the comments above, I see most of it is a more public Facebook status, which does not interest me. For following a niche area of interest with links, I have found value in it.
Come on guys...I know a lot of intelligent people who use twitter for a lot of reasons.
I am one of them.
I use twitter to keep in touch with members of my family I don't often get to speak with, friends from high school that have moved far away, and friends from college who I dont get to see anymore. Twitter allows me to feel a lot more connected to the people I care about.
Some harsh language on this thread..geez. Just let people enjoy something, why dont you?
