We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
We are looking at windchills of -25 here Sunday AM. The beauty of that is a few years ago they changed the formula used for calculating windchill because they thought the old formula overstated, so we would be even lower under the system used until recently. Either way, the wooly mammoths are staying in today.
I could use a little global warming. We got a foot of snow on Friday, a couple more inches last night and I awoke to -10 temp. It is mid afternoon and we are up to a balmy -4. Oh, and the wind has been gusting up to 45mph. Where can I purchase some additional CO2?
Welll folks it's a long story here in the pc world of Seattle. We bought too many of the wrong kind of buses from the Spanish. The AFL/CIO boys wanted to support the new Spanish government (if you don't believe me check it out). Anyway these great long double long buses can't do well on a dry day. We have bus drivers who won't drive in the snow. We have few trucks for sanding and even fewer graders. You see somewhere, someone (teacher's union?) decided that because it only snows a few days each winter, we should shut down the entire city and surrounds. This place started to shut down on Wednesday when it began to look like it might snow--everyone went home early. Then on Thursday, we had a "Staggering 3 inches of snow" (quote is from local anchorwoman, who is always looking for ways to suffer). We have had three channels reporting 24/7 for 3 days now that we are having snow. Yup folks right now total accumulation is about 7 inches. Highways are closed, and the same anchorman standing at the bottom of the steepest hill in Seattle on Wednesday, to report that it "might be closed". Then reported that it was closed. Had his camera man take a picture of a man on a bike, who ultimately slammed into the camera truck. Finally, on this last day a "real car" slammed into the camera truck. And, oh by the way, the kids using the hill to sled on--well one of them had to go to hospital for "possible concussion". Seems he slammed into a parked car while trying to get on tv! GEEEZ ! These people are pitiful! There are people at SEATAC airport, who have been there for 3 days/nights--you know why? Well, let me tell you why: They ran out of de-icer--"there is a shortage of deicer, because there was a strike last month". Of course, our ever so inquisitive journalist couldn't tell us who was on strike that stopped making deicer . . . It's 11:00PM on Sunday night, the three local channels are running the school closure notices under the picture like they usually do--only one problem--the schools were all scheduled to be closed tomorrow for the holidays anyway!
I forgot to mention one of the "castrato" tv reporters held up a piece of "actual ice". You know the ice that forms under the snow--it was about 3/4" thick and about 5" square. He wanted to show everyone why they should not go out and drive!
Tell me: can anyone report to Maggie's Farm that they have a truly informed, unbiased, disciplined news program in their city?
What has been going on in the rest of the world--all we know is that it snowed in Seattle!
