Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

QQQ: Freud on smoking

Our post about Office Romance: Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar prompted this little bit of research. Freud on smoking:

"[Cigars have] served me for precisely fifty years as protection and a weapon in the combat of life...I owe to the cigar a great intensification of my capacity to work and a facilitation of my self-control."

Another:

"My boy, smoking is one of the greatest and cheapest enjoyments in life, and if you decide in advance not to smoke, I can only feel sorry for you."

Freud also praised cocaine for its effects on the mind, which explains why he was able to found what he called a new science on -- can't recall exactly -- a dozen (well, less than twenty, anyway) clinical cases of "hysteria." Recipe for success: take Greek mythology, add virulent imagination and prejudice against females, soak in psychoactive drug, dry in sun, and peddle to people interested in sex. Can't miss.

thats katy perry smoking a cigar....she would be better off with a good, filtered cigarette maybe but not a heavy cigar... shes a girl
