We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Sounds like both my grandmothers. One of them met a sweet but very nervous college beau, and I had warned her BE NICE, he's shy. Thinking to set him at his ease she bellowed, "Oh, Mr. ___, that's an Italian name, isn't it??? I had an Italian gardener once, Fine gardener...." We winced. Other grandmother, when introduced to same hapless young man flirted up a storm with him (one of those women who had been told that they had "it" in youth and never forgot it, long after they should have), causing him to relax. As we left, she hugged me and whispered loudly (somewhat deaf) "He's very nice dear, but PLAY THE FIELD!" The relationship did not long survive the two old ladies...
Hey you guys missed it! The point is this: We have been told for 60 years that the South would rise up and make right the harm that was done to it by the "carpetbaggers" from the north. Those people who came in after the civil war an stole what they could get. WELLLLLL TOnight--we can allll--each and everyone of us who believes in this country--we can celebrate. The SOUTH rebelled today (in the senate) and the SOUTH won! HOOOORAY.
I am still trying to figure out how to get compensation for those 120,000 farm families who lost their family farm. 120,000 every year from 1984-1997. That's a lot of American families folks. People who were told to go get "retrained". There was no bail out for them. OR, wait a minute, maybe I do see some kind of "opportunity"for their children. THE CHILDREN OF THOSE FAMILIES are the sons and daughters who are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. What do ya say if we put all those DETROIT "auto workers" into uniform and hand them the same opportunity? Naa--I ain't ever gonna regret this day!
