We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Oh you boys have been missing something very special!

Stan Lynde was a bright young kid that crawled off the lonely homestead in MT in the mid 1950's. Made it to Chicago with a good idea for a cartoon strip. Lasted about 20 years and then the
"dirty Chicago boys' took it over. They tried to run it for themselves (greedy bastards) and in 4 years had destroyed it completely. But, years later, and with the help of the Good Lord, Mr. and Mrs. Stan Lynde now own their own creation--Rick O'Shay and Hipshot. I have given you the link to "Happy Birthday Boss". This is a very famous cartoon strip. It shows the savy(not very naive) cowpuncher riding through town on Christmas eve. He passes the church where everyone is singing carols, then he goes past the houses where families are gathering and finally he comes out onto the eastern face of the MT front. There sitting on his horse with nothing to see but distance, horizon, and stars he says aloud:
"Happy birthday boss!"
Do what you can to buy a print, or a t shirt or anything that will help this proud, honest, hardworking couple that had only to survive the Chicago mafia in their prime and came home with a greater vision of what it is that Jesus asked for.
Oh Good! It was a tragedy that the Chicago Tribune treated him the way they did back then. But, you know boss--what goes around comes round! ;-)
So glad you remember this one Skook!
I can take you right to THAT place--right there where you can look out and see the universe! I know exactly where ol Hipshot was that night! Anytime you drop by our little homestead--I'll be happy to take you up there!
terrifically off-thread --but ya gotta scroll down & read the testimonials --Fat Albert if he had any shame would have move to the middle of the sonora and live out his daze in a Airstream.
I LOVE Calvin and Hobbes. One of the best cartoons that have come up during the 20 and 21 century. I have every cartoon Bill Watterson has done. Spaceman Spiff, what more can be wrote?
