We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

More on Jason Redman

A comment from an active-duty SEAL in our comments section, on our post about Jason Redman's Sign on the Door last week:
For those of you who don't know Jason Redman, he was shot twice in the face and once in the arm while serving in western Iraq. He is making an amazing recovery undergoing his 4th surgery for facial reconstruction. His arm is slowly returning to full functionality. My name is Carl Higbie. I am a Navy Seal and had the opportunity to serve with Jason and have him as a close friend for the last 5 years. He is a model of how the teams work, and how we WILL NOT fail the American people. All we ask in return is that you support for what we are doing, and spread the support to those around you for that is what makes it worth it for us to hang our ass on the line for those of you how love this great nation. Thank you.

Thank goodness for our soldiers --without 'em this country would've long ago become a distant memory.

Distant, and no doubt illegal too, on pain of the hangman's noose.

I hope those who criticised the notice in the original post read this...this man paid a price for all of us...in return I myself respect his wish to express himself as he sees fit...God bless him.

I did see this fine tribute to Jason Redman in the original post.

I respect his right to express himself any way he wishes.

Do I have to get shot in the face to earn the right to express myself any way I wish, or is that a given in a free-speech society? Perhaps you might come up with a price for me to pay to all of you; or should I remain mute with fear that I might offend with my opinion?

I've never been surprised at people's opinion of me. The only thing that constantly surprises me about people is how smart and self-righteous they perceive themselves in their tunnel vision.

Now, if you'll notice, I responded directly to your charge that I should not be surprised at other's opinions of me should I make some opinionated comment. That's it. I made no reference to the soldier. I am talking to you; I was talking to you.

As far as what other people think, as you alluded in your response, I don't give a rat's ass. I have a mind. I use it. It seems you and a few others don't respect the opinions of others unless they agree with you. Your problem.

This has become dull now and the company on this thread rather childish...I will continue to uphold the seals right to behave in the way he wishes to....the others who seem to enjoy their freedom to denigrate this fine man fought for, can happily whine away..off you go chaps.

thud, i know this gal, netwise that is, and she'd never insult a fighting man --she's actually pretty emotional on the subject and therefore she's now tongue-tied in straightening out this contretemps. Way up top of this thread she went off-thread to make a personal policy statement unrelated to the topic. You then took her to be referring to the topic --and you were righteous to object --as she would have too, under the same misunderstanding.

Then, the rest of the conversation flowed poisoned from that well of misunderstanding --which i'm here offering my (quite unrequested) analysis of.

Also, i used a preposition to end that last sentence with.

No misunderstanding or tongue-tied Meta here, Buddy. Thud challenged me and I answered - on topic. My point being do I have to take a bullet to the face to be respected or treated fairly for my opinions. Obviously, that Thud brought it up again in this post proves there are a few who can't allow me my opinion. They gotta take the bitch down, don't you know.

Very strange, as well, that Luther agreed with me on the original post and has supported me here - and yet, do you believe it? He's ignored. Whadya think..... think maybe there are a few guys on this blog who can't stand a woman who stands up for herself?

Reckon I'm right on that considering you felt the need to parse me out just a bit to Thud.

well i missed the beginning --didn't know there was a precursor --i just picked up the back n forth here --and thot i'd spotted da problem upthread. Anyhoo --i would've done the same even if you wusn't a gal --i often stick my nose if i spot a misunderstanding. many's the outbreak of violence around here i've prevented back when the place was full of little wild critters --i guess i'm just stuck with the habit now.

That should have been the first clue there was a precursor to this thread. As well, throughout this thread, I make references to the original thread, and Thud quotes from it.

I don't think anyone was coming to blows over this, Buddy. Thud was having another go at me, and I was simply sparring. No blood, no tears.

Well Meta... when you're speaking with one voice for all the voices in your head it can get pretty crowded... so a little halo preening gets one back to earth, or somewhere. But I agree, doesn't seem like there is much to like.
