Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

"Wealth, Money, Mumbai, and the Left"

S,C&A considers many of the things that bug the heck out of us in a piece of the above title. One quote:

Leftists today hate freedom and democracy because those ideas have created the environment for success. Assistant Village Idiot recently noted in a comment that Arabs don’t hate us because we have succeeded, but rather, because they have failed. The same is true for the leftists - their burning hatred of democracy stems from their failure to create a single instance of a functioning society that isn’t a least a generation behind our own.  Not even the redistribution of wealth can make up for the values and freedom that create an environment that allows for the creation of wealth.

The only the wrong with the statement is that I made that comment over a year ago. Nice to know that it stuck with him, though.

With all due respect that post is a bit overmuch. The one paragraph you quoted would have made a good article if expanded upon but the article as written ascribes every vice, bit of cant, and bugaboo to the entire left. It isn't useful to describe the coalitional left as so universal - unless you're talking about net effects like body count.

I know lots of lefties (I live in Boston) and they are very different in their prejudices and sore spots. The only thing they have in common is an answer: if we all worked together/got the smartest people in one room/applied sufficient resources -- then we could solve [problem I care about]. This idea has been tried a few times which is why I say the only universal measurement of the (wildly divergent coalitional) left is body count.
