Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Lie to Me

Does the average person really lie three times per ten minutes of conversation? If so, I may too trusting, or too gullible, for this world.

Psychologist Paul Ekman studies emotions and deception, and has Evaluating Truth training seminars. He is the expert on micro-expression of emotion.

Some of his online training programs are here. Cool stuff. Useful, too.

A new FOX TV show based on Ekman's work, Lie to Me, will begin airing in January. From the clip below, it looks to be darn interesting:

When you enter the CIA you get polygraphed by the best in the world.

I was told by one of them, a PhD in Psychology that all people lie. I've operated on that premise my entire life. i firmly believe it to be true. Why? Because I invented the Internet.

I like Tim Roth. He once said something about how sick he was of all the liberals in Hollywood. He was good in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.

How many times does he lie when sharing his knowledge with us?

What bothers me most about this 'is he/she being deceptive BS' is that those who MOST seek to deceive probably understand the variables and thus seek to fall under the radar.

Trust but verify.
The major events since 9-11 should be looked at as lessons, how can we make things more resilient? Every failure, every success should be studied and improved.

Of course nothing of the kind will happen from the top down.
