Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Hey - Is that picture of the Connolly's the one by Madison or Third Ave? Or is it the mystery Connolly's on the west side that I've heard of but not seen?
It seems that the mainstream media is missing the point again, as usual. The link above to Sisu and the posts about the Sarah Palin/ Fred Thompson friendship is very encouraging. The MS media were just congratulating themselves about 'killing Sarah dead' with their stream of inexcusable falsities and accusations, yet when she came to the lower 48 to campaign for Saxbe, she pulled big crowds and the man won, thus saving us grown-ups from a filibuster-proof Senate.
We haven't seen the last of Sarah, I predict. She is a powerful, charismatic leader, and with Fred Thompson's wise and clever guidance, she will only grow in stature over the next few years. What we're seeing in our politics today is unique, in my memory. For the first time, we are seeing the growth of real equal or almost equal partnerships between powerful and wise men and women in the political arena. There have been lots of women in politics, yes, but overwhelmingly they have been acolytes to more powerful men. I get the feeling that, with the appearance of genuinely powerful and effective women like Sarah Palin, political power is going to be more equally shared between the two sexes. Of course, we'll still have fools like Pelosi, who is a bad political joke, and makes one think of a high school hall monitor, but until now, there have been only a few women politicians, like Margaret Chase Smith, who had genuine gravitas and whom one could respect, whether one agreed with her or not.. Sarah is going to have that -- already has, to some extent. And the future is brighter because she has it. Already, my tattered hopes are reviving. A little anyway. Marianne AMEN Marianne! Now, if we could just get her to speak in terms of systemic cause/effect--she would be light years beyond the dems. She has personal courage--what a beautiful thing to behold. What I do not fully understand is this: during the times that journalists could've, should've been reporting on mob connections to the democrats, they would automatically have stumbled upon the daugters/wives of the mobs who were filtering into politics. They have enough personal power locally to begin the foundations they need. WHY IN THE HELL did journalists refuse to make the connection between Ferraro and the mob? Why did they not make the connection with Hillary's daddy and the Chicago boys? Mondale and Ferraro lost California because they needed to spend the night before the California elections in Reno(Mountain suburb of). Californians in those days clearly understood what that meant--they were getting their instructions from the Vegas boys. It was after all Mondale that legitimized "indian gambling".
Today, the question is not who they are, the question is can they sit across the table from Putin and save our ass--got nothing to do with Rice, or Gates! Got to do with Pelosi's husband! Well, this is off topic because there is no second amendment subject, but I thought this should be seen by MF readers. The video was sent to me this evening by a friend who is concerned about our Second Amendment rights.
Her last comment is indeed correct - not that she, I or anyone else would want to see such a set of circumstances. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4069761537893819675&p I don't exactly know when the testimony took place. It was most likely a few years ago. Nevertheless, it is more relevant today. I think this wind thing is a dumb fad. It kills birds, and it requires govt subsidies from my pocket.
I suggest that you get yourself edjumicated. http://books.nap.edu/openbook.php?record_id=11935&page=72 “Clearly, bird deaths caused by wind turbines are a minute fraction of the total anthropogenic bird deaths—less than 0.003% in 2003 based on the estimates of Erickson et al. (2005).” http://www.awea.org/utility/040602_DeMeo_Why_Utils_Should_Invest.ppt cost down drastically from 40 cents/KWH in 1979 http://www.awea.org/pubs/documents/Outlook_2007.pdf. current cost of wind:competive, According to Puget Sound utility. http://www.awea.org/pubs/factsheets/Subsidy.pdf.Energy subsidies compared with wind and other energy forms. "During the year 2003 alone, federal energy subsidies ranged from $37 billion to $64 billion, according to a study prepared for the National Commission on Energy Policy. Wind energy accounted for less than 1% of the total." Wind energy may be a fad in the Northeast, but here in Texas it is the source of my household electric energy. I see you have a link to a post by the Baron. However, I must mention that he is merely the middleman in this one -- our son, the future Baron wrote that multi-culti satire.
Yep, a chip off the old block ...even though the old block -- of whom we do no speak -- is P. J. O'Rourke. Or was it S.J. Perlman?...Or Walt Kelly, maybe?... I forget. Anyways, the fB ws not a well-supervised child whilst roaming our bookshelves and did a lot of random reading when he was a tad. Thus is he given to writing these satires before I can get to them. May other parents learn from my sad lesson. Anyways, that one was too good not to post. |
