We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Come come! We have had enough of this. I will put an end to your prating. It is not fit that you should sit here any longer! You have sat here too long here for any good you have been doing lately. You shall give this place to better men! Call them in! Call them in! (the musketeers). You call yourselves a Parliament. You are no Parliament; I say you are no Parliament! You are whoremasters and drunkards, corrupt and unjust men, how can you be a Parliament for Godís People? Depart, I say; and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!
I have always heard the peroration of Cromwell's speech to the Long Parliament as "You have stayed too long here for all the good you've been doing. Depart I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!" I took a graduate level course in Stuart England when an undergrad at BU and it was my favorite quote.
Isn't it high time the Democrat Congress hears this command? They are as worthless a lot as has ever walked the corridors of power. So far, the people haven't figured out who to blame for the mess the Democrats have created.
But I think the people at long last are beginning to see through the MSM cheerleading and Republicans may stand a better chance than they think. Why don't they act like it?
Ahh, c'mon, Lord Protector, tell us how you really feel!
And you, too, Green Mtn Punter! (I agree with you.)
Why has no one drawn the connection between the economy and everything else going straight down the dumper and the Democrats taking over Congress. Since taking over, the Democrats have done nothing productive, but have spent all their time holding "investigative hearings" and trying to cripple the present Administration's running of the country. They have done nothing to fulfill all the grandiose promises they made to the American people, and yet all we get out of the media is crickets chirping.
Perfect example now is the Dems blocking any real energy legislation. They just want to blame the problem on the Republicans even though the cause points to them at this point.
Yarr, I think they need a few pirates coming in over the rail to deal with this situation.
Hey, Jim, what an exceedingly well-put critique. I agree 100%. Seem to remember that, the day after the 2006 election, the stunned and outraged Democratic leadership [Teddy Kennedy, Harry Reid, Pusillanimous Pelosi et al] had a caucus meeting for 4 or 5 hours to make a plan for the next two years, the outcome of which was to decide that they would block any substantive legislation on any domestic issue, as well as defunding the Mid-East conflict, so that there would be no achievement which future generations could give the Bush administration any credit for.
Well, they have named a few Post Office buildings. But they have initiated so many congressional investigations which got nowhere, so many fact-finding commissions on so many non-issues, and avoided so many difficult decisions that they have been designated as The Do-Nothing Congress. And even the most frivolous of us out here in flyover country have begun to notice.
I've been in the twilight zone ever since it came clear that Pelosi was going to change every house rule she needs to, in order to prevent debate -- much less a vote -- on the Colombia free-trade bill.
considering the stakes -- on her side, all i can figure that makes any sense of the fury and extent of her opposition is that somebody doesn't like Uribe's interference in the drug trade and has told her to stop this bill -- while on the other side is a critical, crucial, battle in the long twilight struggle between liberty & tyranny for all of Latin America (which BTW begins not on the central american isthmus, but in San Antonio TX and Miami FL).
Pelosi is not just the silly and ineffective San Fran Nan -- she's a subversive, operating on the global level in the 'clear & present danger' sense. Can you say 'catastrophe"?
And why is she where she is? Oh, Harriet Miers, Dubai Ports, and that Border Fence.
As many of us tried to tell our then-hyperventilating conservative friends, better watch the over-the-top Bush-bashing -- if we get Pelosi & Reid we'll regret it in spades.
But no soap -- so we got 'em -- and are now facing an eight year rampage through every institution and custom that makes, or made, America America. yes, I'm nauseated -- sorry for rant.
Yes, BD, I have become a real fan of Maggie's Farm. I first landed on the site through a link to a Maggie's story on another site I look at. I then started checking you out regularly and after a couple of weeks trial run, you passed the admissions test, haha!
I was amazed by the demographic stew set forth in your "mission statement" at the top of the page: The Anglophilia, the New Englandophilia, the libertarian, Dylan streak all rolled into one demo! I don't think Madison Avenue had this demo properly ID'ed, do you?!
I had always assumed, thanks to pre-Drudge MSM, that Dylan had been hijacked by the left and that I was the only "rightie" on the planet who appreciated his genius. Of course, I never thought that Dylan himself acted or thought like he had been "expropriated" by the left given the fact that he went through one or more quite "unleft" phases during the course of his evolution.
Dylan is just too damn smart to be a lackey for any cause, it is just plain "unDylanish". In any event, congrats on an endelessly fascinating, timely, humorous, informative, and wise, yes, wise site. Your links to many other fascinating, non- mainstream, think-out-of-the-box sites is also very helpful. You have created something of an aggregate news site, as Drudge describes his. Maggie's is a good find and I have recommended it to a number of my friends including a few Moonbats.
