Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Saturday, July 12. 2008Did Schumer cause that run on IndyMac?
Looks like it. He does nothing without political calculation.

As far as Sen. Schumer "causing" the fall of IndyMac, he may be able to wiggle out of it. But it is at least "guilt by association" isn't it?
Marianne Day by day, against the backdrop of continuing bad financial market news, we seem to be more headed on a collision course, a showdown if you will, on the whole global warming/energy supply issue and the harm the economy is undergoing every day because of the gross negligence on the part of those charged with it's solution. It's damn well about time.
The problem is that the only party which can be a true Opposition Party, i.e., the Republicans, are not nearly forceful enough in bringing this to a head by running a unified national campaign to defeat Democrats, the party of energy sophists as well as sophists on many other crucial national issues. Here the Republicans finally have a winning message and all they do is sit around and whine "Woe is me." Can you imagine what the Democrats would be doing if the shoe were on the other foot? They would be rolling over us like Spitzer's "...... steamroller", that's what. Yes, Republicans, it's time to go "all in" on this hand, you really have a world beater this time but you've got to play it! As the only viable Opposition Party in this country, it is the Republicans duty to stand up NOW and say loud and clear: "No more of your nonsense, the country can't stand it"! And no, we are not interested in "working with Democrats" in Congress, we've tried it many times in the past only to discover that they are not interested in working with Republicans, and now we have run out of time, we must act now. We should therefore be only interested in the total defeat of Democrats in '08. The choice is yours, America, you must decide who has been telling the truth, is telling the truth, because the nation's immediate future depends on your making the right choice this time. Newt could lead this campaign for congressional seats but instead we get hand wringers and the "can't we all just get along" Johnny Mac Presidential campaign. Pathetic, isn't it? Green ... We can't "totally defeat" the Democrats as long as they are in control of Congress, and it doesn't look as if we can win that in November. When we were in control of Congress the last time, we screwed it up by abandoning our Republican principles of smaller government, lower appropriations and fewer earmarks. But at least I hope we can pull our socks up and elect a Republican president. You may not like everything about McCain. I don't either. But at least he's a grown-up, and the Democratic candidate is not. He's inexperienced in running anything successfully, nor does he have an adequate knowledge and understanding of American history. Fifty seven states indeed!
So suppress your disagreements with McCain and vote for him, if you're serious about rescuing our country. Marianne I agree. There is much not to like about McCain; he is a weak choice, but as has been mentioned before, the sight of Ruth Bader Ginsburg asleep on the bench and the thought of her replacement should strike fear in anyone who has a brain. We must all hold our noses and vote for McCain. However, we must also begin building a truly conservative party that will listen to our instructions and act on them. We must have leadership; Newt's gang and McCain's "14" were a joke. There is no getting along with the Progressives unless you go along with them. To get along with them, you defeat them!
GMP,
I agree in theory. The Republicans have been compromised over time by the idea of "working with" the Democrats. That compromise has marginalized the ability of the Republican Party to stand for the principles first espoused by the framers of the Constitution. The result is lack of vision, weak, inarticulate candidates like McCain and the Republicans in Congress have lost their ability to articulate any kind of message. In fact, I think they would rather lose the country to the socialist fools in the Democratic Party and hang on to their jobs than to risk losing in the general election. Pansies! I believe the country would respond very well to an articulate person who would be willing to lay it on the line, including saying that government cannot and should not solve all of societies ills. My guess is that 40% of the country understands what the socialist Democrats are doing. I also guess that the leftists represent about 30% of the country. That leaves about 30% of the country that includes everyone from the clueless, to the "I am too lazy and want something for nothing" folks, to the uneducated and uninformed and I don't understand economics people. These people are, in other words, the lowest common denominator. The Democrats manipulate the "feelings" of these people, making them feel bad about government not taking action to protect the grandmother eating Alpo because she spends all of her social security check on pharmaceuticals. You can find a horror story for any and every occasion. Obama does this everyday. Ronald Regan knew how to communicate. It was morning in America versus the end of America. For now, it is hold your nose and vote for McCain. I would just like to see a good leader emerge for the Republicans. With a $3.1 TRILLION budget, entitlement spending poised to take an ever bigger bite of GDP and geopolitical risks at the highest level in a generation, there is no longer the luxury to be passive. I try to make the case every day to anyone who will listen. God bless America. Accountability will return to government when Republicans hold the White House, a veto-proof 2/3+ 1 majority in the House, and a filibuster-proof 61 seats in the Senate. Then there will be no buck passing, no lack of accountability. The country will not allow the Democrats this kind of power as voters sense a little too much authoritarian love of power from them. Republicans are really untested in this regard. Democrats would fight tooth and nail to prevent this since they would be deathly afraid that if the Republicans succeeded and the country boomed, they would be out in the cold for many years. So, on we go with this current gridlocked nonsense from pols who have no guts. What will it finally take?
New York Times reported that hedge fund managers have a new champion in their effort to keep legally dodging the taxes the rest of us pay: none other than New York Senator Charles Schumer. Now you know who is Schumer's friend and why he caused the bank run on Indymac. He truly support hedge fund and private equity because they truly support him.

If it was already known to the public, what is the reason for his public letter? It is contradict to what he said previouly :"I just bring private message to the public. Do not kill the messanger."
