We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Fear of Moslems

We linked to Geert Wilder's short movie on the Koran last night. That movie is becoming a cause celebre.

Here's Diana West on "Pre-emptive Rage" at the Wash. Times. My only reaction to the fuss and the predictable Moslem "rage" and the rush of the Left to disparage and attack the film is this: What if Geert Wilders had made a short movie critiquing the Holy Bible? Would anybody say anything?

The Left likes the Islamists (only in the abstract, mind you - not for their dinner parties) because they imagine themselves to be rebelliously anti-Western civilization as they sip their Pinot Noir. The rest of 'em are just scared pantywaists, as Teddy Roosevelt would say, and don't want to poke a rattlesnake.

What if Geert Wilders had made a short movie critiquing the Holy Bible? Would anybody say anything?

Earlier this month Scott Adams, the Dilbert guy, did a series of cartoons about a new employee, a "Team Leader named Jesus pronounced Hay-soos" that spoofed "Jesus pronounced Jesus". I didn't hear a peep from the vast legions of the Protectors of Other People's Feelings.

You really summed it all up here re all the reasons libs 'tolerate' the outrages of religious fascism from the Muslims. Basic cowardice is not mentioned nearly enough among those reasons. As for Adams, he is a real stand-up guy. He knows a good slice of his audience is liberal, but he never panders to them. When he first started blogging, there was a fair amount of howling when his fans started hearing things from him that they didn't expect. But anyone who left for that reason was replaced, and then some, by other readers.

What the extreme ends of society don't seem to admit is that they are outnumbered. This glaring fact will bite them eventually.

When the animal crowd breaks harrassment laws and drums Schumacher furs out of DT Portland thru months of protests, they make enemies of rational people.

When the Moslem huggers scream about Choice or Same Sex Marriage, burn down the patricarchy man, they alienate the "vanilla people".

One day there might not be so much freedom to go around. It's happened before to the Japanese in USA. Percieved enemies of The Norms might get thrown under the bus. Cops beating protestors who just earlier were throwing paint on people or slicing SUV tires won't elicit much of a reaction.

For Hateful Anti-Western Muslims and their apologists: backlash is a bitch, don't count on the Liberty of the West to be available for use against the West forever.

You know... I keep seeing stories on this, and for a few minutes I kept thinking "Gene Wilder."
I was hoping he and Mel had returned to satire....wouldn't that be sweet.
