We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

"Spare us elitist populism" in this Land of Opportunity

So requests VDH at Pajamas. I agree.

America remains the Land of Opportunity, and the politicians should be extolling that, and bringing inspiration to those who want or need the encouragement instead of pandering to peoples' sense of ineffectiveness and their desire for some "help" from the government which will never arrive without a loss of dignity and freedom.

The politicians should be saying "We'll provide justice, civic peace, protection from external enemies, minimal interference and taxation, and personal freedom so you can go out there and pursue your dreams - whatever they may be."  

Sometimes I think the Dem ideal is for everybody to become a "ward of the State." I find that attitude to be insulting, negative, and destructive to the human spirit. Furthermore, I have minimal respect for anyone who wishes to "govern" me: I desire to be self-governing.

If you have any doubts about opportunity, read about this guy who built a life with nothing but $25 and a bed in a homeless shelter.

VDH is for me always a good read.

Obama is, in the land of plenty, playing to the baser instincts of mankind. That we are by far the wealthiest nation on Earth isn't debatable. That were offer the greatest avenues for opportunity to achieve isn't debatable. It is all in place for those who have the energy,drive,talent, and perseverance to succeed.
I have said from the beginning that Obama is a charlatan and oleaginous snake oil salesman. Hillary, now looking dowdy in extremis is rotting before our eyes.

I would like Obama to sit down and explain his positions to Newt and Dick Cheney , two very bright, informed men of considerable talent. That discussion would be one that politically Obama would not survive.

"The Audacity of Taupe" reads the byline over at Lucianne highlighting an article by her son Jonah about Obama.

I'd like to take a drive by look at the byline and posit this. That the likes of Tiger Woods and Sherry Belafonte, both of the taupe, actually paved the way for Obama's success to date with the voters.

Woods and Belafonte are easy on the eyes and ears, coming across more white and balanced rather than black and outrageous like THE REVEREND JACKSON or SHARPTON.

Let's face it, the N-people make up what, 14% of the population and what percentage of that is adult? Could you say in honesty a super dark noir N-person such as Sonny Liston or those who in the hood that are called"shine" could ever be as popular with white voters? Get real, never happen. No matter how articulate an N-person, such as an Alan Keyes could get very far because they are too noir and nappy.
But give us an unctuous taupe and we begin to free our guilty white souls with an outpouring of affection. Yep a nice taupe beats a bad ass noir every day.

We have to be careful with this identity-group politics. The left has fostered it -- let's let them deal with the mess they've made, and not help them out by by objecting to any of their candidates on anything other than policy grounds.

Indeed, the finest two GOP comers on the landscape, imho opinion, are an Indian and a woman -- Jindal and Palin, Bobby Jindal and Sarah Palin, govs of Louisiana and Alaska. Do we support them on their race & gender? Not no, but HELL no. It's because they are smart, effective, and decent public servants who in their respective states have managed to get a little 'ree-form' going on.

Feminista signed same sex benefits legislation.

Leave that cutie pie in Alaska.

Bobby's endorsement by Limbaugh as "next Reagan" is reason enough to leave that boy in Louisianna.

Me level of merriment does reach grouchy on occassion.

The legislation is for same-sex benefits, BD, to Alaska state emplyees and retirees.

When it is 60 below 0, strange alliances do occur, it seems.
