Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Medical Treatment

Everybody knows I hate the euphemism "healthcare." Medical treatment is for illness, unfortunately. Health requires no care. Two medical links:

Brit columnist claims UK's NHS has failed, says each patient is viewed as a "cost." Of course. Surber. Do you want your doctor, or a government employee? Brave New World explains it all: when you get sick, you go to die happily and spare everyone the burden - and they recycle your remains!

More on the question of "Who are the uninsured?" Betsy. I see no crisis, and would not trade what I have for anything. If 3% of my cost goes to cover illegals, the irresponsible, and parasites, I don't care all that much - but a "thank you" would be appreciated. My medical insurance cost (with a $5000 deductible) would cover the cost of a nice vacation. Which is more important to me?

Yep, that's right, Betsy, and when you sustain a million dollar brain injury in a car wreck, my income taxes will help pay for your treatment. Free Rider!

I suppose a compassionate government owned health care system will consider the cost of surgery, rehabilitation and could decide a $75 (this is the government rate mind you) morphine injection more cost effective.

Interesting site at www.ourpetition.org It was an attempt made in 2006 to email every Member of the UK Parliement and ask that they pledge to use only the NHS and never go private for their medical care. Interesting to note which Party made no response at all.

Some one needs to ask the same of our Congress critters. Surely, they would have no objection to closing the VIP ward at Bethesda and recieving the same health benefits they propose for us.
