We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I own a couple of small Grillos, and had a nice chat with the fine old gent and his wife last summer on the Cape. I will buy one of his large oils when my piggy bank is full. He has moved through a number of styles, but mostly in the general abstract expressionism direction. The gal is his wife, if I am not mistaken, perhaps in her younger years:
i am here in barcelona and if my piggy bank was full i would buy a picasso or miro or maybe just one really big Rothko I MEAN IF I AM GOING TO DREAM I AM GOING TO DREAM BIG. I was in Mykonos for the past week and I got to tell you there are more Gays there than in all of the United States but no one told me. It has been quite the family vacation. lol
Yesterday somehow I missed a thought you expressed that fell under others eyes but eluded mine. It was as profound as those who first viewed it and I enjoy posting it again as an honor to you. A masterful thought expressed beautifully.
" Sad, sad, and sad. Past loves, all undone by a grandiosity that made them want to change the world in their own image, instead of being satisfied with the highly worthy and noble goal of illuminating it
You're right, Habu and of course Barrister, if "it" references the world to be illuminated. May mercy and understanding temper and strengthen the noble endeavor of teaching non-grandiosity.
Am not v. familiar with Grillo, but do love the odalisque- female form in painting. A family member paints them with heightened musculature, age, and/or holiness. Art gives us variations on boundless, beautiful themes. Art gives.
