We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
At the feeder today, between church and a late brunch on this chilly Easter:
Cardinal, Blue Jay, BC Chickadee, Song Sparrow, Chipping Sparrow, WT Sparrow, Mourning Dove, Downy Woodpecker, Red-Bellied Woodpecker, Tufted Titmouse, Purple Grackle, SC Junco, Goldfinch (half-moulted), BH Cowbird, House Finch, WB Nuthatch. Not to mention the fat Red-Tailed Hawk eyeing the squirrels at the feeder.
Image: Moulting male American Goldfinch. Our males are not this far along with the moult into breeding plumage.
Reloaded the feeder at Campbell NY when the cold weather returned. Stopped feeding because of dehibernating bears. Not too many of my foul weather friend returned. Juncos, Chicadees, Purple finchs, some very yellow Goldfinches, nuthatches and my old friend Fluffy the Red Bellied Woodpecker. It may be a regional thing but I never see the Sparrows or Grackles at our feeder that you get.
