Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

A model for a great blog post

A great blog post - as opposed to a "check this out" post - is succinct, non-rambling, fact-filled, gracefully-written, minimally self-referential, and pulls together disparate themes and unusual facts to shed fresh light on a subject, or to make a random subject interesting. That is to say, a great blog post is a good brief essay, ideally well-salted with links. When I post, I rarely have take the time that is required to be brief.

Here's a good example of a fine blog post by Never Yet Melted about deer coursing in Scotland.

Within you parameters Mr. B that was indeed a well done post. The description of their weapons seems bleak for the isles "airguns, pocket knives, and their boots and hands" and is sad. Though I realize these hunters are making do with what they are allowed. Shows the primal energy the left attempts to erradicate. Well illustrated as well. I had the gentleman on my 'read every day' list, but that neo-counter thingy he has takes forever too load so I now just do an occasional visit. Nonetheless a fine writer with taste.

Yes, he has a loading problem. He usually just links things, but he can write when he wants to.

It is for a fact a new literary form. A link-rich essay, which somehow can be more loose (fun) than anything committed to the dread sanctity of pen & ink on paper. And someone to read it other than the English teacher, Miss Redink.

Our format doesn't do links in comments. Ye olde cut and paste is the best we can do. Our system is resilent and sturdy and forgiving and easy for us to use, but not the latest model.

Wish we could, but my first task is to be able to do push-button music links.
