Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Friday, February 16. 2007Non-bindingAs I have said before, the "war" in Iraq has evolved into a large-scale police action with the goal of supporting the establishment of a humane, civil society which does not support Moslem terrorists. I see no reason why anyone would oppose such a benign effort in a part of the world which is not only strategically important to America, but has also been a source of terrorist attacks. It's called "draining the swamp." It might be successful, and it might fail. But why oppose it? Why? Purely for political reasons. But it's a big gamble for the Dems: Now they need to cross their fingers and pray that we fail, and they need to do whatever they can to cause us to fail, for their political strategy to succeed. If the past is any guide, they will give this kind of "victory" all of their energy, and will ignore the real issues in the world. All about power and '08. It is painful to watch this sort of thing happening in my country. Bush must feel like Lincoln, dealing with the Copperhead Dems who never quit opposing "Lincoln's war." Also, need I mention that I believe that the reason for the opposition to the "surge" is that it might be successful? Trackbacks

This congress is as irresponsible as the Frank Church bunch that did away with our intelligence services back in the 70s, and opened up the world for this jihad.
You are so right BL. the H2ogate spawned many crippling devices on this country. The dems continue too amaze me, oddly enough. They are all fricking crazy, and yet I still can't really believe how fricking crazy they are. Its like Fellini land.
Lincoln was a gifted man, he endured so much. And yet still managed to make, not without error, the right decisions. He kept this the United States of America. My cynicism makes me ask, could that result be duplicated today? The one difference I see, is that the war of succession was basically geographically defined. That did make it easier, though poor choice of word perhaps. Before my preeteen years I was aware of national and world politics. When your father fights the countires battles you learn quickly who is with you and who is not. At 59 I have never known the Democratic Party to be anything but socialist and anti American.
Buddy mentions the Church Committee and the post Watergate CIA hearings. I was active CIA then and watched as the Democrats score political points at the expense of this countries security. The man who testified, William Colby, the DCI (Director of Central Intelligence) was forced to give away what we called the "family jewels". I'd been decorated by him personally and knew of his courage in the OSS, parachuting inot France during WWII to set up French resistence. He was a good man. Korea and Vietnam showed that the Democrats have no spine for battle. They are a fifth column within our country. In their forty years of controlling Congress prior to 1994 they managed to aid in the infiltration of the State Department with pro Soviet puppets. They abandon our Vietnamese allies in the same manner they are preparing to do in Iraq..cut off funding. The price to be paid will come later in the turmoil that will follow. LBJ's suspicious congressional win in 1948 (see Robert Caro's extensive 3 book volume on LBJ) and the infamous ballot box #13 (http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1282/is_n8_v42/ai_8370024) to JFK's 1960 victory over Richard Nixon and the missing voting dead Democrats votes in Cooke County , Ill, then under the infamous Democratic Mayor Daly, ( http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=425967 I could write a book but you get how I feel about Democrats. They feel the same about Republicans ...it is becoming more than just a ballot box issue. Post Script: William Colby was a master sailor yet died under highly suspicious circumstances in the Potomac River right next to his home. here: http://www.newsmax.com/articles/?a=1996/5/07/153650 and here: http://cbn2.tripod.com/d80.html here: http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/wcolby.htm No one in the CIA that I knew believed he died of natural causes. But Habu, is it the meme gone crazy? Or, might there still be, active agents? How corrupted are we, thinking of Hanssen. Do we have a clue?
There's a new movie out, about Hanssen. The one review I've read (link below may not work--subscription) seems to place him as a brilliant iconoclast--y'know, the "values-neutral" portrayal.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB117158480724710454.html?mod=hps_us_inside_today Dinesh D'Souza's new book "The Enemy at Home" --says that these people, the 'cultural left' now actually, actively, want USA to lose this war.
He says it's because they've decided that foreign policy is what keeps the center in power, and that a foreign policy disaster is what the left needs in order to regain its 'rightful' position in American governance. Luther,
I'm sure there are moles and traitors in all US Agencies and Departments. I say that because throughout history there have always been those who would do such things. Some is overt, such as former Speaker of the House Jim Wright who helped pen the "Dear Commandante" letter to Daniel Ortega and the Sandanistas in an attempt to undermind Reagans foreign policy. Foreign policy is the exclusive domain of the Executive Branch but it didn't stop Wright & Co. treachery. The covert we hopefully find out about and either "turn", torture or trade. There is a very old acronym one learns in training MICE, for identifying people vulnerable to recruitment M=money I=ideology C=compromise E= ego http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MICE_%28espionage%29 For the longest, I thought they were just dicking around with politics. The scales are now falling from my eyes. This is the big kahuna, the Orwellian nightmare. It's here. I wish to thank all the pissed off righties who sat home on November 07, to "send a message". It got sent, alright.
Of course, the GOP got no one to blame but itself. It had to have been better than just an alternative to the left--with the press what it is.
Habu's link to the 1996 Newsmax article on Colby--jeez--I remember averting my eyes on the Colby thing--busy as hell, operating my small biz and keeping the kids going. I knew DC was getting mighty smelly, but just ignored it.
Now we got another Clinton running. That'll be, "Ebdee, ebdee, that's all, folks!" The most ironical of all is how righties decry the America haters and the self-loathing Left, while many conservatives openly hate the Prez and the GOP and are quite venomous toward them, in fact. They said it last election, and now too many are still saying how they wish the Dems would sweep in '08 to teach the "Right" side a lesson.
Guess the hardcore believers think you have to kill a country to save it. Good luck to us all. |
