Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Basically, I feel that individuals and organizations feel frightened about being mobbed, canceled, losing a job. McCarthy-like tactics, magnified. Three things about this nonsense bother me most: People losing jobs for innocent reasons; people self-censoring their opinions; academic institutions abandoning core principles; and the PC mob mentality. Final point: "I/we deeply apologize for the hurt and harm I/we have caused by ____. " The apologies are baloney, and nobody was hurt. It's just an opportunity to take a scalp. I hope the scalp image does not get me in trouble.

It is all part of the divide and conquer effort. No doubt many of those who consider themselves special due to their skin color or gender don't think they are dividing so someone can conquer us they are merely useful idiots.
Where I think we (we being the common man/citizen) is we don't look into who is behind the scenes. Take any college demonstration and tell me the name of the loudest protestor. Most likely you cannot and most likely you know nothing about them. But someone "trained" them. They may have always been obstinate and hateful but someone exploited them and turned them into an activist and we know nothing about them or who their mentor is. If we knew more about these people, if they couldn't act out without everything about them being known a lot of these shenanigans would end. We need something like Project Veritas that would video the meetings/training sessions and talk openly with the activists to get them on record. Just like the many fake race crimes these are fake activists and someone, some group is pushing these things and it would be nice to know who and why. I don't quite agree that individuals and organizations are fearful of being mobbed. There are simply far too many Lizzy Warrens, triggly puffs, AOC's, mattress girls, Smollets, and Shifty Shiffs that get the majority of media coverage because there is no real difference between the media, academia, and socialist politics. It is the Alinsky rules in practice.
University and media leadership could end it by expelling the culprits but that would not benefit their agenda nor their pocketbook. First this all looked like the American version of China's "Cultural Revolution". Now the infection has festered, and begins to look like Orwell's 1984. What the woke want is, their opinions coming out of your mouth.
There are silent pockets of "this is BS" resistance, but until masses act like Canadian truckers and force a halt to the nonsense, it'll continue. My immediate boss' agree wokeness is nonsense, but their boss', with the real voices, are silent. And so we fly towards the abyss.
Once you mention mccarthy, in my mind, it diminishes the rest of your point. McCarthy was correct in pointing out the insidious evil of communism that was permeating our institutions. The dems, with assists from Bobbie kenned y and to a lesser degree hillary , assured the poisoning of our country....and their poison, communists, dems and kennedy/Clinton continue to this day. McCarthy paled in comparison to them. Leave McCarthy out and I'll consider your point.
"Taking a scalp" is cultural appropriation.
By the way, McCarthy was essentially correct in his claims about communist infiltration of our government and society. Nowadays the communists brag openly about their beliefs, a la Psaki. The points about McCarthy and McCarthyism are really just earlier examples of how the Progressive left take over and re-brand institutions to their liking.
'Tail-Gunner Joe' McCarthy was a Republican Senator, an alcoholic camera hog who was trying to leverage a failing political career by coming on strong against communism. People usually use him as the face of unreasonable political intolerance and anti-communist political witch-hunts, show-trials in the form of Congressional testimonies that coerced people into ratting out and demonizing others. The Hollywood blacklist is usually conflated with him. But most of this damage was done by the House Un-American Committee, HUAC. And year after year, this committee was dominated by Democrats, coming up with recommendations to inter Japanese citizens during WWII, creating the Hollywood 10 blacklist, strong-arming Hollywood into generating propaganda films, and squashing investigations into the KKK. Makes you wonder if infiltration of government institutions was an inside job? In the end though, trying to claim and hold power by pretending to weakness only works when people are willing to continue being polite. I disagree. For example "Joe' McCarthy was a Republican Senator, an alcoholic camera hog". So wasn't every senator in congress at the time. That had nothing to do with the issues.
"People usually use him as the face of unreasonable political intolerance and anti-communist political witch-hunts". There really were communists who were organizing and trying to destory the country. If anything the propaganda since that time has effectively erased that fact and made it look like McCarthy was some crazy man. He was in fact 100% correct about everything at the time. "that coerced people into ratting out and demonizing others." Others who were guilty not innocent people but people who were conspiring to destroy this country. "coming up with recommendations to inter Japanese citizens during WWII" This is a different issue but I disagree with it too. Early on after Pearl Harbor there was active sabotage by Japanese Americans in California. The administration made a plea to Japanese American leaders to help find these saboteurs and stop the sabotage. They refused. Remember at that time we had lost the pacific fleet and were facing a two front war and the odds were not in our favor, i..e. it was possible we would lose. No time to fool around with a group of people who had split loyalties. So they interred them so that they could put full attention on fighting the war. Some may think this was bad or unfair but it was 100% better than being drafted and killed in battle. These Japanese were safe and not mistreated while our citizens suffered terribly at the hands of the Japanese. I sympathize with the Japanese who were interred, they spent 4 years of their lives at Summer camp while our soldiers were killed in horrible ways. Yeah! It wasn't fair. McCarthy died before he hit 50 of alcoholism, which was not the case of most other senators. But you've misunderstood my point, which was about re-branding for political advantage. I've no doubt that communist activists were working their agendas during those times, and even now. We have an open political system which passively encourages free expression, and that's the price. My point was that Democrats were at the vanguard of persecuting people in the name of Communist hunts, and for a lot of the time, those persecutions were targeting people unfairly and for political gain, and using extortionate practices to get information and support for their accusations - even if it was untrue. Actors with backbones dug their heels in against this misuse of power, and refused to cooperate - and were blacklisted unfairly, not because they were communists, but because they weren't rat finks.
My point was, when Progressive Liberals want to make political hay, they distance themselves from their disgraceful past activity - like calling the Klan an old American institution that shouldn't be investigated - by branding these times implicitly as a Republican exercise, by dredging up the ghost of Tail Gunner Joe. Every time he's referenced, it's as a 'Republican Senator'. Cite please. I have never seen a credible source documenting sabotage by Japanese Americans in California.
BTW, history has shown that McCarthy was right on the general extent of Communists in the post war government, but wrong on the details. The 1950's version of the Deep State buried him. I am not "woke" but I am awake, and I sure do see lots and Lots and LOTS of snakes in the grassssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss.
