We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
YouTube, being so bold, fearless and brave, has awarded its CEO the "2021 Free Expression Award", which was then accepted by the CEO, Susan Wojcicki. Wojcicki, in her acceptance speech, detailed how she works to deny freedoms because "The freedoms we have, we really can't take for granted, we also need to make sure there are limits."
This is cutting-edge stuff here. Orwell would have a field day with this one. That is, assuming anyone reads, let alone understands, Orwell anymore. “Don’t you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it.”
I suppose I'd be aghast at the irony, hypocrisy, and outlandishness of all this. But when the Committee of Public Safety arrives, a distinct lack of intelligence is the norm. To paraphrase Monty Python, "Nobody expects the French Revolution." Except we're reaching a point where if you don't expect it, you're just not paying attention, or you love the new-fangled guillotines these modern Jacobins utilize.
Western Civilization's Growing Intellectual Dead Zones
By its nature, a civilizational crisis affects elite institutions, the dominant ideology, the core operating system of a ruling system. It is not a breakdown of the backward periphery but a madness in the heart of an empire, a rot in its ivory towers.
. . . Only after the rot becomes too evident to deny will there be widespread recognition of the problem. But by then it is usually too late. Perhaps the most puzzling aspect of collapsing civilizations is that they rarely see the crash coming. Things keep “getting better” until the smash, which reveals itself briefly in what has been termed the “Ceausescu moment,” the instant when artificial stupidity is replaced by blinding clarity.
So the Australian Navy now sponsors an exotic dance team. That's nice. What's next? Perhaps "Blowjob Giver, First Class" will become a new rank. And what's most disturbing is all of the older people who are patiently watching the performance. I guess they don't want to rock the boat. Really, I never cease to be amazed when new evidence appears that we have used-up every drop of our social capital. We're running on fumes, and even those will soon be gone.
We've raised a generation of monsters. Kids who don't have the slightest ability to distinguish between right and wrong. And after denying the kids an education, we send them to jail. The kids aren't even at fault, we're at fault. But nobody wants to take the blame. So the first step in cleaning up this mess is to admit that our schools are a Marxist disaster. We should close them, and allow parents to send their kids to any kind of school that they want, at their own expense. And most importantly: No more T.V. or internet or mobile phones. We are left with a simple choice: Get rid of the State propaganda machine; or embrace our own destruction.
Many years ago, we were doing some work at an apartment building and a pest control guy came around doing some spraying and I got to talking to him. I asked him how bad the bug problem was around the apartments and he told me they didn't have a bug problem because he came around on a regular basis spraying for bugs before they became a problem. He pointed out that most homeowners didn't call for an exterminator until the bugs had become a problem and then it was much harder to deal with the problem. Sort of "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" thing. That stuck with me - by the time you've noticed there's a problem it's too late, it's better to see the signs of a problem ahead of time. But few people are knowledgeable enough to know what the signs of an incipient problem are, they only learn afterward what should have been obvious.
People who manipulate language by redefining words are “brave”, because of course they are — it means precisely what they want it to mean!
Orwell warned the West about this in 1948 when he wrote Politics and the English Language about the politicization of language in the Soviet Union. We’re living through the same nightmare right now, it’s plainly evident as shown by things like this, and I wish more people could see that and push back against it. Alas hardly anyone knows any of this because people are completely ignorant about history ...
