Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Living joyfully, off the grid in a Swedish forest

I wonder how they get money. There is no evidence that they work, but maybe they write or something. She says she makes artisanal cheese, but not now.

Living life as a hobby.
A woman in my town happily showed everyone on social media that her entire garbage for the year fit in one Mason jar.

In the real world - i.e., outside of the bubble of the middle-class West - if human beings are "living off the grid", it's simply because there is no grid.

She has 130,000 subscribers and 1 million views for this video. How much does that generate. It seems around 100K subscribers you have a new full time job, there you go.

Socialism is ugly. It's even worse when you discover that you really do have to sustain your own sustainability, in a real world, when stuff doesn't work the way you hoped it might.

Americans think they are immune to it, but it is coming here.
As are financial institutions sell us out, Black Rock for one.
The US dollar will no longer be the world currency being replaced by the Yen. Its coming, the EU just signed a trade deal with China. Are you well off and stocks doing well, do not be surprised when the market tanks. I no it can't happen here. But it will.

In many of their videos they thank their PATREON supporters by name...also apparently a lot of family "support" ie: getting the hay in etc

I just laugh at these "back to the land" stories. I mock the TV shows from Alaska showing people "living in harmony with nature", growing their own food and hunting, trapping, and fishing to survive. Never mentioned, of course, is that people get old and can no longer cut down trees, build log cabins with a drawknife and an axe, chop firewood, and hike the mountains with a rifle. Those shows are good entertainment, though.
