We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
It's a class thing, or maybe an aesthetic thing, because few people tell you what Trump policies they oppose. Trump will win again. (This is an old snippet which is still timely)
I've seen this phenomena, too. Leftists are trained to hate people based on pure moral indignation. According to them, President Trump is a fascist, sexist, anti-welfare white supremist. But when I ask these people what they would like the next President to do, whomever he may be, they have no suggestions. I think that these people enjoy being a member of the group who are going to create "change". In the future, everybody will be happy, and fulfilled, and well-paid. We just need the right leader. But what they don't want to discuss are any painful adjustments which might be required to create that ideal society. I always ask: Should we deport illegal aliens? Should we limit medical spending? Should we require that food stamp recipients work? The person always turns around and walks away. He's afraid that if he recommends a painful solution, he might destroy his street credibility as a rebel.
So I don't think that President Trump is going to attract many fans from the left. Those people operate on pure emotion; you can't reason with them. They'll continue to riot, until they can't riot anymore.
A lot of people realize that Trump is the symptom not the cause, and that he is a stand in for the Normies of Working America, enduring the abuse meant for the rest of us. I can't tell if the Prog fixation on Trump is out of stupidity, obtuseness, or if it's down to cynicism by the Left. By cynical, I mean that they know that Middle America rejects the creepy Prog agenda, so they make Trump the issue and the focus. It's deflection. OTOH, maybe the Dem rank and file isn't capable of thinking beyond shallow personality cult memes. It must work, or they wouldn't be doing it.
