Here, I sensed, was a woman who was out to go on "long-term disability" for the rest of her working life and would sacrifice any colleague on whom she could pin the least impropriety to gain her objective. I urgently told him to minimize all contact with this colleague and to restrict any communication to strictly business matters, foregoing any of the normal banter he enjoyed with other colleagues. He was skeptical but listened. Fortunately, the woman left the company before my husband forgot and treated her like a "normal" colleague.
