Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Minimum Wage

The New York Times Explains Why the Minimum Wage Should Be $0.00


"Should be" or whatever, fact is it is zero regardless. It means you have no job. That's where government assistance comes in handy.


The good news is that, in this economy, anybody can find a job and thus dignity, purpose, and usefulness.

A minimum wage of zero only means no job for us Dirt People. For the favored few Cloud People, it means INTERNSHIP.

A zero minimum wage doesn't equate to not having a job. It means that the government doesn't set a minimum amount that employers have to pay a worker. The employer and the worker get to set the terms of employment and pay.

If there is a minimum wage that is all the worker is worth. It doesn't matter if that worker is an outstanding worker or a complete dolt. It is a means of keeping economic slavery alive and well in the USofA.

My state still uses federal minimum wage. With this hot economy, I see McDonald's, Taco Bell and Burger King advertising $11.50 an hour. In a more populated area, I see $10 and hour. This is well above minimum wage, which means very few people in my state are making minimum wage, and if they are, they are choosing to keep that job rather than work at fast food or other retail. Supply and demand works, people.

My oldest two are teenagers and both have had jobs in the past year working entry level jobs in Walmart and grocery store.

Neither started at $7.50 (Texas minimum wage). Both made well more than that immediately.
