Academia and Reverse Ethnocentrism

The USA is the worst country in the world. Europe is a terrible ex-colonial place in its death throes, a quaint museum with food. European civilization is the worst the world has produced. The Western World is obsolete and evil, etc.

These radical chic attitudes are getting old-fashioned, but they are still around in academia: It’s Time to Fight for Western Civilization

There is simply no difference between these attitudes and statements then there is in what the KKK thought and said. The target is different the hatred and racism is the same.

Academia across the West has adopted the teachings of the German professors of the 70 years prior to WWII. Those professors created the ideological basis that became Nazism. After the Nazis were defeated, the professors in all Western countries took up the same teachings tweaked to avoid the Nazi link. Even in America the universities abandoned the Scottish university (real enlightenment) in favor of the medieval university which was organized for the benefit of the "scholars" and did not emphasize teaching.

Anti-Westernism has been of great interest to me for several decades. It has been the prevailing ideology for these past 30 years, but it may be starting to ebb. It started out in academia whereby the thought was "all cultures are equal, they are just different."
But it became apparent that for the past 500 years virtually everything of value to humankind was created by the West.
Rather than abandon this idea as invalid, the defense became that the West is only prospering because it exploits other cultures. Therefore, over time, the cry became "all cultures are identical other than Western Culture because it is evil.
This spread to into the fabric of Western society whereby if you were successful, then it was only because you exploited others.
This ideology may be waining or it may be going through a short declining period. We will see.
Donald Trump irritated anti-westerners because he challenges the carefully crafted narrative that all cultures are equal.
When he claimed that certain countries were "shitholes," this flew in the face of this narrative. Those anti-westerners embarrassed themselves when claiming they saw no difference between Ruwanda and Norway.
Therefore, there is a struggle on the world stage between Nationalism and Globalism. We will see who prevails.
