Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

I continue to recommend the (depressing) Three Felonies a Day by Prof. Harvey Silverglate. You can count on it. You are a felon. There are 6000 federal crimes (including owning an owl or eagle feather), and nobody knows all of them until somebody looks one up to pin on somebody they decide to target.  That's not counting the 40,000 pages of federal regulations.


Feel free to confess in the comments for your trivial crimes which might be past the statute of limitations.

When we were young, our parents used to have us kill new bamboo shoots in the yard by pouring used motor oil on them. That's one I can think of right off the bat.

Federal judge Kozinski wrote an article on the same subject. See link. Professor Eugene Volokh said that all these federal felonies constitute a de facto bill of attainder.

I had a car that stood out: 1968 Lotus Europa. I was pulled over by the police and when I asked what I had done wrong, he said: "I didn't like your style of driving". Ticket said that I drove over a yellow line when making a turn...
