We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

VDH on the American elites

Counterfeit Elitism:



 Our best and brightest, with the most impressive resumes and degrees, not the “decadent, lazy, spoiled, whatever” of Middle America ran up $20 trillion in national debt. Our best failed over a decade to achieve 3 percent economic growth. The supposedly smartest warped the health care system. The brightest could not translate overseas interventions into a strategic or cost-to-benefit advantage. The anointed eroded the border. The most knowledgeable gave us state nullification of federal law. The purportedly most ethical weaponized the IRS, the FISA courts, the DOJ, and the FBI, undermined the idea of free-speech in the university, and politicized everything from the eroding NFL to the increasingly irrelevant Oscars...

Most are just “believers” seduced by the herd, totally sold on their own talent and intelligence, and living in an echo chamber. The geniuses have so much ego involvement and emotional investment in their beliefs/theories, it is like they are wearing blinders. Since they are surrounded by yes men, they have round robins of mutual self congratulations, that are ultimately self promoting and self serving. In other words, many of them.... actually ....believe their own hype and spin. After the dust settles, what makes them look so foolish is their defiance of common sense.
Couple the above, with a lack of empathy for regular people, unless it is maudlin or melodramatic, and voila, they are dismissive of most of America. That is the impression I got from GWBush this week.

Our national debt is a national disgrace. Our federal government indulges in a couple dozen or so extra-constitutional activities that account for about 50%-60% of the entire budget. Everyone of these should be ended and if they are of any actual value the states can constitutionally take them on. The federal government should about eight federal cabinet level departments (and everything within them) should be ended and all of their employees freed to find real jobs. This alone would save the budget about $2 trillion or so. Do we really need a department of education? Or a Department of labor, energy, transportation, HHS, VA, HUD, agriculture, commerce, Interior???

We could end deficit spending by eliminating these entire departments and the million or two employees and wasteful spending. We could balance the budget and give back another trillion or so to the tax payers. The only thing stopping us is 535 members of congress, 50 governors of states, a few tens of thousands of lobbyists and of course a small army of lazy indolent people who would rather not work and live off the dole.

The alternative if we fail to stop this debt bomb is another great depression. It won't be pretty, it will be much worse than the last one. We don't have to all go over the economic cliff like lemmings we could fix this...

Look deeper. All of the wasteful spending including all of the welfare (which is in excess of $1.5 trillion a year) is embedded in those departments and eliminating the departments includes all of their spending.

This is a very good article and I wish many, many people would read it.

I guess the summation to me is that the "Best & Brightest" of our country have anointed themselves as the ruling class and then when in position play their games for maximum gain for themselves and their friends. The rest is like the dust and destruction left behind for everyone else, a giant swath of land torn asunder where maybe something will grow in the future.

I've gone to school with many of these types and it has to be something ingrained in them at an early age. They have one pursuit and to hell with morals, ethics, religion, or any other such considerations. Money is the master, the goal in and of itself.

The Left is another Medusa's or Pandora's box. Just too weird. For eight years, Barry grew the national deficit by some $10 trillion and no one can give any evidence of results or where that money went. Yet, Trump is doing something constructive and will produce results and they complain about his adding to the deficit. Get real. But these people do not live in reality.
