Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Sunday, February 4. 2018Why do they hate Jordan Peterson?A somewhat disparaging article says Peterson’s been described as “the stupid man’s smart person,” which is a good enough euphemism for saying “effective public intellectual.” It's because he preaches "Count your blessings and get yourself together" rather than social change. However, he is a polymath and speaks on all sorts of subjects including what seems to be his favorite theme: myth and religion. He is not a political conservative, as far as I can tell. He does believe in accepting facts and truth, though, which can sound conservative these days, and he questions everything. Also, he detests victimology as a psychological cancer. His latest book is #1 on Amazon: 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos “One of the most eclectic and stimulating public intellectuals at large today, fearless and impassioned.” —The Guardian

So who the f*** is Jack Smith IV, and why should I care what HE thinks? I suspect Little Jacky would be homeless or a barista if he hadn't landed a gig looking for Nazis under every bed.
They hate him for the same reason other people are attracted to him: he speaks truth or at least seeks it where he does not already possess it. This is similar to people hating Dennis Prager, who is one of the most polite and undemanding persons you can debate. If Prager continues to disagree with you but sees that there is an impasse, he is content to just clarify the division and that drives the other side insane because Prager is more concerned with the truth than being right. Recently, someone posted an interview from the early 70s with Dr. Sowell who was being questioned about nearly the exact same damn things, 40+ years earlier, as Dr. Peterson. Again the questioner could not accept Dr. Sowell's answer as being genuine and became irked when he asked for her evidence so that he could re-evaluate his position.
When the current order is built on lies, the truth is revolutionary. He actually asked for her evidence so he would have a chance to re-evaluate his position? Now that's really harsh. What a terrible person.
They hate Milton Friedman for the same reasons. He destroyed their fantasies with logic, facts, and wit.
There are thousands drawn to Marxist socialism like moths to the flame because the Marxist doctrine blames all lifes troubles around them on someone else. Self improvement is not in its preaching, only destroying those around them that disagree with them and like Islam it must use force constantly in order to maintain control. The more socialist and globalist the more force must be used to control. Peterson shreds the blame game and focuses on self awareness and self improvement.
The commentaries of Peterson, Prager & Sowell (among others) deserve the widest possible dissemination.
There is an academic code which includes nonsense like "subaltern voices" and "commodification." He understands what people think they mean by that but chooses to use clearer language. That ends the ruse.
[i]Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain![/] "The production of goods or services for ‘exchange’ via a market as opposed to simply for the producer's own use. This converts use values into exchange values and characterizes the production relations of the market as opposed to a subsistence economy. Commodification is often regarded as subordinating real needs to manufactured desires in its pursuit of profit. Adorno, for instance, saw commodification as producing standardized products for passive consumption. See also commodity fetishism."
Now, that's fascinating. I did not know it was a bad thing when we created value and decided, instead of keeping it for our own exclusive use, to try to give it someone else, perhaps in return for something he created value out of. I denounce myself. Subaltern voice would be, I take it, any voice someone thinks is getting less attention than he would assign to it if he were in charge of what other people think is interesting or value. Yes, you are able to break the code, but it clearly doesn't come naturally to you. Thank God.
“Look for your inspiration to the victorious lobster, with its 350 million years of practical wisdom,” Peterson wrote. “Stand up straight, with your shoulders back.”
----------------------------------- Sounds like something Henry David Thoreau would write. I have been reading it all this week, and enjoying it more than anything I have read for years.
I'm listening to him reading the book. I think that adds some nuance.
They hate him because he has their number, and they cannot shout him down. He appeals to young men in greater numbers than women, and that's a problem to "them," although they can't explain why. But he tells young men that they have value as men, and that they need to be men, and then he tells them how to do it.
When Cathy Newmann asked him if women should want this, men being masculine, his reply was, "Only if they want to be happy." I've said it before and I still contend Jordan is a Right Bastard & I mean that in the most laudatory, Australian, sense!
I've been watching/listening to his biblical series lectures on youtube and to date (I'm up to lecture VI) the fastest I've gotten through any of his roughly 2 hour lectures is 10 hours. He fits so damn much information and food for though tin to each lecture, I have to stop, often, and research what he says or just cognate & chew on it for quite a while before returning, the right bastard! Most times He's too deep for me, but He does have His moments.
