Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

"Seems mostly like 'I hate Trump' or 'Vote for Democrats.' Or something."
Another example of the protest march as an end in itself, I'd say. "The hijab really got a bad image from white colonists."
There isn't much to say after that. You can't make this stuff up. "The hijab really got a bad image from white colonists."
I was flabbergasted when I read that. I couldn't believe that a non-Muslim Democrat supporter would say that. I was even more flabbergasted to hear it coming from a non-Muslim Democrat supporter-who was also a female- at the end of the video. Like you said, "you can't make this stuff up." Why do you oppose Trump? Uh..uh..uh..uh..like..like..you know...you know.... he isn't one of us/he doesn't represent us. I am glad to hear that Trump doesn't represent such sloppy thinkers. And yet, someone did. My mind boggles at the insanity required to make that up.
I don't know whether to be sad or infuriated. Probably both, but I'm more infuriated.
These are the people that the NY Times supports over the office of our president--think about that for a minute. In order to be popular with this group the NY Times has attacked and assaulted our president without let up for one year--even before he was installed as president.
Did anyone find out if the marches this year were larger or smaller than last year? Did anyone find out if the marches this year were larger or smaller than last year?
Wiki:2018 Women's March QUOTE: The 2018 Women's March held on January 20, 2018, on the anniversary of 2017 Women's March, was a reprise protest march with coordinated mass rallies, attracting hundreds of thousands of participants, in hundreds of cities, towns and suburbs in the United States, with sister rallies in Canada, the UK, Japan, Italy and other countries. Some of the largest rallies in the United States were held in New York, Washington, Los Angeles, Dallas, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco, and Atlanta. For comparison, we have Wiki:2017 Women's March. QUOTE: The Washington March drew 440,000 to 500,000 people. Between 3,267,134 and 5,246,670 people participated in the Women's March in the United States.[23] In total, worldwide participation has been estimated at over five million. When you break it down by cities, there is less attendance in 2018 compared to 2017, but not the difference between millions and hundreds of thousands.City/State Estimated attendance 2017 2018 Phoenix AX 20,000 25,000 Los Angeles CA 750,000 600,000 Sacramento CA 20,000 36,000 San Diego CA 40-50,000 37,000 Denver CO 100-200,000 50,000+ Washington DC 500,000 "thousands" "smaller crowd" Atlanta GA 60,000 60,000 Chicago IL 250,000 200-300,000 New Orleans LA 10-15,000 10-15,000 New York, NY 400,000 120,000 (200,000 Mayor DeBlasio) There is no telling which estimates are accurate and which are not accurate. There won't be a Portland Women's March this year, but there will be four different events.
QUOTE: The day after President Donald Trump's inauguration last year, an estimated 70,000 to 100,000 people filled the streets of Portland to march for women, in solidarity with participants in Women's Marches across the country and the world. They had one, just with a different twist the next day. Those who know Portland will interpret.Next weekend, many cities and towns that held Women's Marches in 2017 plan to do it again. But in Portland, instead of a unified Women's March, there will be at least four events. Sunday, Jan. 21, will see the current iteration of the Portland Women's March, the Indigenous Womxn's March at 1 p.m. at downtown's Terry D. Schrunk Plaza.... On Jan. 20, the day that most anniversary Women's Marches are happening in the state, there will be three more events. The NXT LVL X She Shreds J20 RALLY + PARTY is scheduled for noon at PICA in Northeast Portland, and the National March for Impeachment is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. in "downtown Portland." The MeToo March and SpeakOUT is is set for 2 p.m. at Pioneer Courthouse Square. None of these events are directly affiliated with the Women's March but all pull from the march's general themes. "Did anyone find out if the marches this year were larger or smaller than last year?"
It doesn't really matter - so many of these types of marches, protests, etc. are paid for. Even if the protesters aren't paid directly, they are funded in being there by free transportation, free lunches, etc. So many on the left will jump at anything that's "free" that there numbers don't truly reflect the true support an idea has. To the north of you, in Nova Scotia there are idiots whose brain activity has been slowed by the cold of those parts.
https://www.buzzfeed.com/ishmaeldaro/sandy-cove-womens-march-2018?utm_term=.ovP3x3YNA9#.oo8ZgZ4POQ Most of them have too much money and too much time on their hands. Doing anything that is real, like helping to deal with the opioid situation or the drug smuggling that goes on all around them is anathema. Retired teachers on fat pensions gone back to "Mother Earth" with half a dozen backyard chickens and organic veggies. I like watching these, but I'm also skeptical about presentation bias. The intelligent, articulate people who know why they're there aren't shown...if there are any, and we don't have a way of knowing if there were any.
That said, I really like the guy who thought all these misused brain cells could build a spaceship to Mars, or something. They should follow the Nancy Pelosi method: We have to hold this protest in order to learn what it's about.
Find it hard not to laugh at some fat guy wearing a pink pussy hat holding a sign and talking about how he got ahead because of his position as a white whale.
The guy with the black tee shirt, man bun, and jazz hands was really deep, man. That very rotund white guy with the pink hat (I know what it's called but won't call it that here) is moaning that he got an advantage from being a white guy. Well if that is so, then resign your position and demand that someone more deserving takes over. Change starts with you, bud.
