Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Apprenticeships

People tend to forget that many if not most jobs are learned "on the job," if effect, in apprenticeship. Formal education does not teach you how to be a litigator or to be an orthopedic surgeon. They are learned by working under supervision.

Every job I've had included on the job training. I've had no college.

1965: Two weeks as a burger flipper.
1965: Summer job: Making fiberglass storage boxes for computer punch cards.
1968: Checking baggage, freight and selling tickets for Greyhound bus line.
1969 - 1973: Store clerk & Asst manager for small hardware/home center.
1973 - Furniture delivery and repair.
1974 - 1975: Multiple jobs at a foundry.
1976 - Ranch hand. Operating farming equipment and tending to livestock.
1976 - 1993: Working in various Hollywood studios as a recordist and mixer.
1993 - 1995: Self employed handyman.
1995 - 20012: Drywall taper.
2012: Mostly retired: Woo hoo!
2012 to present: Part time hardware store clerk.

It's been an interesting life.
