We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
What kind of people are these administrators? Surely Yale Univ. has thousands of smart, normal students even if the admin consists of castrati. Are they all intimidated into silence while these circuses occur? Or too busy studying to have time for nonsense?
Unfortunately the cry-bullies have the force of law and the Obama administration behind them, in terms of misapplication of the civil rights laws to silence dissent.
You say anything on an elite college campus, and you could find yourself the subject of an honor committee or summarily expelled. In this Stalinist atmosphere, serious students know to keep silent, get their degree as soon as they can, and then get out of there.
I suspect if Trump becomes president, a lot of this nonsense will disappear overnight.
Nobody at Yale wants to be seen as mean. We must play nice because everyone here must be well above average, and anyway, who are we to judge?
Most people are wrong about most things; otherwise, why wouldn't they be at Yale? Since most people are only capable of stating the obvious, their obvious observations must be wrong. Hence we have not only the capacity to make super-subtle distinctions that elude and contradict common moral norms, but also the duty to transgress them. How dare they presume to judge their betters?
Our minds are so fine that no ideas could violate them.
