We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
"America doesn’t trust you anymore. That’s the truth... and that’s not one party, that’s both" raged former Senator Tom Coburn during a hearing before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs this week. As Free Beacon reports, Coburn, making his first appearance before the Senate since his farewell speech when he retired in late 2014, pleaded with Congress to take action to reform government, quoting de Tocqueville, that an ever more centralized control reduces its citizenry "to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd."
What if most people are happy to be sheep with a government-shepherd?
I don't think people are content to be sheep. But I also think they don't realize this because it seems easier to be a sheep...but if they are forced to no longer be sheep, they find that there is more capability in themselves than they thought and also a much happier life. People are better off mentally and physically when they work on a regular basis. Whether that be gardening or laying pipe. All of it is for the good of the soul. God did not intend for us to be layabouts living off the work of others.
I just don't believe this. When I talk to people about how they're going to vote and why, or why they're not going to bother to vote, or why they don't think it's important to be involved in the political process or local governance, or why they don't think they should have to deal with their own neighbors and merchants and so on without government assistance, I can only conclude that many people are completely content to be sheep. I'd love to think that we're not going down without the best fight we know how to put up, but my experience tells me it's not so.
It's not about the sheep - it's about the sheepdogs. Sheepdogs that will bite the hands that beat them once too often.
Two shepherds talking in a field
"It's not about the sheep you idiot, no one cares about the sheep. One of these days your going to screw a sheep and find it's a wolf in sheeps clothing, and there you'll be, with your pants around your ankles and your dick in your hand."
We will make sure all of you sheep are sheep.
First all of you "sheep" need to register your firearms
next you will have to pay a BIG fee in order to get a
license to keep your firearm (said Hillary)
All persons caught with a unlicensed firearm will be
imprisoned for life.
We don't even trust them to reform government even if they had good intentions. Every bill passed has something in it for big business, Wall street, foreign countries, non-citizens, the UN and other rent seekers. I think we are seeing the last gasps of a once great country and everyone who can is grabbing all that they can and heading for the high ground.
