Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Saturday, April 16. 2016Bill Nye, the Authoritarian Guy
“The introduction of this extreme doubt … about climate change is affecting my quality of life as a public citizen,” he said. “So I can see where people are very concerned about this and are pursuing criminal investigations as well engaging in discussions like this … they’re keeping us from getting to work, they’re holding us back.” As far as I know, nobody has impinged upon Nye's quality of life (certainly in no meaningful way, he's still getting his voice heard and making money as a shill), and nobody is stopping any 'work' that I know of. Conservation efforts on the part of Nye, Ed Begley, Jr., and Leonardo DiCaprio are certainly still taking place. They are all doing 'work' to pursue their beliefs in stopping the god of warm. Obviously, what he's implying is that my choice to not agree with him or his cohorts is criminal and worthy of fines, jail, or other punishment he deems adequate. He also feels I should pay into his religion to perform work deems necessary and I don't. Nobody is hurting him. I'm not sure what a public citizen is, at least any more than I am a public citizen and I don't feel I'm being hurt by his behavior. Of course, he does want to hurt me by throwing me in jail, so maybe I'm just wrong about that. Gotta get mine in before he does, so I'll take my shots at him with words, rather than criminal proceedings or taxing him to death to build a temple to the god of warm. Bill Nye, the Shill Guy is moving closer to beingBill Nye, the Fascist Guy. I think people who misrepresent themselves with the label scientist, when they are really just entertainers, should be faced with criminal punishment. But I doubt that would get very far (yes, I know he has a BS in Mechanical Engineering, but so do my accountant, my financial planner and my plumber, but they aren't making broad proclamations on climate change and law).

What crime would you charge him with Bulldog? Or are you just being sarcastic? He has a right to express his opinion, regardless of his credentials. I rather like it. He has let the mask slip and is revealing his thinking in plain English. There can be no mistaking what he wants or where he stands. I wish all progressives would be so forthcoming. "Conservation efforts on the part of Nye, Ed Begley, Jr., and Leonardo DiCaprio are certainly still taking place."
Of those three, my hat is off to Begley because, whatever you might think of him, he genuinely attempts to "walk the talk". Bill Nye might be considered a scientist, but only inasmuch as that term describes "one who observes the tenets of scientism".
I posted on facebook that "climate change" is a farce just the other day. I suppose I wouldn't be in the cross hairs of persecution but dang, fascism at its best.
Ed Begley Jr. is a real envronmentalist, Bill at least tries to walk the walk even if he's bought into the anti-science crowd. And has become a candidate for the Stalin's Hero Award.
DiCaprio... DiCaprio is a hypocrite on the scale of Zuckerberg - Mr - "how dare you think about building a wall prevent the infux of my future serfs. Men throw this philistine off my property - the rest of you get back to work on the moat!" He's the second least environmently sound person in the movement - and thats saying a lot, becuase Al ain't no slouch. Still, Obama holds the #1 position. I'm curious about this work to which Bill refers. Would that be the onerous task of making the government bigger and providing more regulation? Or would it be the work of flying from place to place lecturing people on how bad they are while you go about creating a carbon footprint to rival some small third world countries? Eff billy boy.
I'm going to leave my lights on all night, then I'm going to drive my SUV 1000 miles, and then I'm going to find 5 used tires and burn them out in the desert next to that solar plant in the mojave And then I'm going to find billy boy and beat the living tar out of him. What a cuck. And still, all of that stuff together will be LESS polluting than a single cross-country flight.
Tree-huggers have huge carbon footprints because of all the flying they do, while the types like Jake with their big houses and big cars actually consume fewer resources overall. Many a tree-hugger has tried to deny this fact, but you can look it up yourself...flying on an airplane is the single worst thing you can do for the environment. Enjoy your SUV, Jake. Perhaps a bumper sticker: I won't believe you are the environmentalist you claim to be unless you either WALK or BICYCLE everywhere.
Bikers are a MAJOR source of pollution and energy wastage. Our stupid mayor now feels he must take away a lane of traffic and add a dedicated bike lane to major streets. As a result, our downtown roads are gridlocked for the handful of bicyclists that actually use the bike lanes. I have a car that keeps track of my MPG, and it has dropped from 28.6 MPG to 26.9 MPG since they started putting the bike lanes in. That's significant, in my opinion, especially if you multiply it by a few thousand other cars now caught in the same nonstop traffic james.
Do you live in Portland OR? I keep reading complaints about the bikers and Tri-Met and pot-holed streets there.
I could drone on at length about that transport disaster that is the "multi-modal" world of Portland, Oregon.
Out, I want out. If it moves it is taxed here, no strike that, if it exists it is taxed here. The new taxes are called fees or what have you, but it is really just progressives in a one party environment redistributing our incomes by new taxes. They want to charge people to park in front of their homes. The bridge crossing the Columbia River to Vancouver? Like out online health care system, it was a waste of 400 million dollars. It simply wasn't built. These idiots behave as if no one could have predicted the inadequacy of the current 60+ year old structure. The 40 million in bridge studies? Just thrown away with nothing built. In part because our government (city, county, state) ignored the height required by industry along the river and the USCG's recommendation. Too steep a grade and the light rail they wanted to attach would not be viable. And, the primacy given to bike lanes . . .well- The city is creating road diets (don't ask) and the pot holes are part of city policy and cars are, as articulated in city policy documents, the last mode of transport priority and budget-wise. Yes, cars are rather like white privilege ..oh what a mess this lovely town has made of itself. But he is hurting you, me and every other citizen. He is hurting them in this way; we are going to have to pay more for everything we need to satisfy our lives, we are going to be colder if they get their way in shutting off electrical plants.
Yes my life is going to be worse if their plans go through. And once that happens, then they are going to start pushing euthanasia for all the people that are a drag on society! Steve I notice wherever I read this about Bill Nye the fascist guy, the majority of comments address Nye's education rather than the fact that the government is at war with a segment of the population with citizens cheerleading More Tyranny!
In the words of Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny, if you're the deer getting a drink and your brains blown out, do you care what color pants your executioner is wearing? Sure it sounds ridiculous now. But only because the party is just getting started. Bill Nye is a scientist in the same way as Judge Judy is a judge... technically true ... but she's not Supreme court material.
