Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Addition to The Mighty Maul


The annual re-post "The Mighty Maul" isn't due for several months, but a buddy passed this along.  


We all know that chopping wood requires not necessarily strength, but style and positioning.


Sometimes a new design can help, too.  Hooray for physics!

Finnish forests are mostly birch it seems, so I guess they do at least! :)

That's true. But I have only one axe and when I was chopping last year, out of about 35 logs, only 5 or 6 had knots significant enough to require extra effort.

If I had this for the other 30 or so, assuming it's a time saver, I would have saved time and effort before dealing with those.

I like the idea of using a spare tire to keep the log and all it's pieces from flying off, too.
