Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Universal Pre-K?

It's been repeatedly proven useless from an educational standpoint, but it's government baby-sitting and would use unionized, highly-educated employees, so what's not to like?

Oh, this is such a sore point. This is a babysitting program for moms who don't know how to keep track of the multiple fathers of their multiple babies. After billions of dollars pumped into this system of support for unwed mothers and disinterested fathers, we need to label it a FAILURE.

Guess who else likes it - social workers who worry that the kids left at home will be abused or neglected by their parent(s) or live in friends with benefits, but of course we could not cruelly take these children out of dangerous homes and humiliate the drugged parent. Universal pre-k is a sop to their consciences.
