First, each of my grandchildren over a certain age will be receiving Charles Murray's "American Exceptionalism" in his/her Christmas stocking. It's a small tome, easy to carry around and a reminder that America has given more people more opportunity in its short lifetime than any other country on earth.

Second, I remember taking a debate class freshman year in high school when the teacher announced the topics available and asked us each to sign up for the ones we wanted to take on and the side we desired. When the assignments were given out a week later, everyone of us got the opposite side we had preferred. It was an excellent lesson for life. Unless you fully understand the opposing position, you will never be able to fight the important battles you will encounter. Our university professors need to get some spine and demand their students open their ears to other opinions stated, I might add, without the ranting screams demonstrated by most of the liberal voices I encounter. I can hear.
