We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Is the TSA dead?

Homeland Security was one of Bush's dumb moves. Totally unnessary expansion of non-functional federal bureaucracies. Whenever government screws something up, they find a way to hire 10,000 more people to complicate it even worse. That's called "doing something."

We recently posted about the Trusted Traveler program.  But isn't a US Passport an indication of a "trusted traveler"?

With all due respect, that reflects a past reality that no longer holds. We have not had a Constitutional Budget for 4 years. We have been told by the Democrats that we will not have one in the foreseeable future. Congress no longer has any leverage [neither funding cuts, impeachment of any official, or other action are possible] over the Executive Branch, because the Senate will do whatever the White House wants. Refusal of Executive Branch officials to appear to testify with no consequences has been the norm for years.

TSA will exist and expand as long as the current cabal holds power.

Ummmmm, NO. Just as citizenship means less than nothing, since being an undocumented or illegal alien bestows more privileges and political power than so-called 'citizens' enjoy, so to is a passport meaningless. I agree with Subotai, they might change the name of the demonic creature called TSA, but the only changes will be increased trespass on our rights. Not only will we enjoy multiples layers of 'protected minority' classes, we will also indulge in the fantasy of 'trusted' travelers. Are we having fun yet? Please relax, place your seat trays in the upright, closed position and enjoy the continuing disintegration of what was once a mostly coherent society.

Yeah, I was not a fan of the Department of Homeland Security. Did not need it. Knew it would just keep growing larger and use up more money. Also knew it would not keep us safer than the CIA, FBI, NSA, and military already do with their intelligence capabilities.

What a waste of money...and now we will never be rid of it either!
