We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Despite the cultural storms and waves, it it is the daunting job of royalty (or at least of Brit royalty who are currently, sort-of of German origin despite being Brit in culture and manner) to make the best stand for the core values of duty and service.
I have never met the Queen, but I have always liked the cut of her jib.
The Queen of Duty - In an era of irresponsibility, Elizabeth Regina always does what is expected of her.
The Angles and Saxons were Germanic, and the Britons who remain in England are mostly confined to Wales.
So it's not unreasonable to state that the British are Germanic.
(Not to mention the fact that the largest ethnic group by far in America is the Germans.)
Deutschland, Deutschland über alles, indeed.
Yes, PRJ, but these folks are closer than that. Queen Vicky's kids and relatives married Germans, and the local kids, well... Wiki says of the House of Windsor, "It was founded by King George V by royal proclamation on the 17 July 1917, when he changed the name of his family from the German Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (a branch of the House of Wettin) to the English Windsor, due to the anti-German sentiment in the United Kingdom during World War I. "
And yet...and yet.... something unique happened to the Germanic influence after the English climate started to affect it. The stuffy perfectionism of the German mind was vitiated by all that rain, and the beautiful flowers. The English retained their tough, disciplined character and added some healthy pigheadedness which gave them the strength to defeat their enemies even when severely outnumbered. It's a special mix of character, temper and humor. Amalgamated with the other characteristics it's a prizewinning mix.
And what has the Defender of the Faith to say about
the rising numbers of Muslims in Britain? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. She knows that her descendants will be able to afford Canadian and US passports while the majority of her subjects will enjoy being "converted" to Islam by the sword.
hawk returns ... All of our Western nations have been and are being afflicted by Muslim immigration. Have you tried to check out immigration figures lately? America has had a vast influx of Muslims from around the globe. A lot of them have headed to Texas -- I know that. We are a border state, after all, and Houston is already an illegal drug destination from Mexico. The last thing I want to be is a conspiracy theorist, but every time I go out and about in my home city, Houston, I see more and more of them on the streets and in the stores. We are well-known for our Medical Center, and the doctor's rosters of our hospitals [we have more than thirty of them in our Med Center] show greater and greater numbers of Middle Eastern names.
I think that the UK is in even worse condition than we are. But they do deport criminals with greater alacrity than we do.
You could say that I'm xenophobic and I admit it. But I'm probably right.
