Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

And hatchet ready they are. Not one of them demonstrates any facility with their tool or work. This is the result of taking the unskilled and putting to a task with only cursory instruction.

The European way to remedy unemployment. When I lived in Berlin, Germany they were repairing a section of street for the three years I lived there. The workers would be out working on the street when I went to work in the morning and would be knocking off when I went home. I don't know if they ever finished repairing that street.

THe sad thing is - I've done similar things in the US Navy. Chipping up non-skid and paint with hatchets and claw hammers because we had lots of manpower, but no tools.
