Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Ace had this insight: In the Future, Socialism Will Advance Through "Insurance":



The endgame is just that no one actually pays for anything; the government, or a co-opted government-controlled industry which provides the functions of a socialist government ("insurance companies" which no longer insure anything, but merely send checks to people), simply takes over almost all costs in life.



As long as they call it "insurance," people can pretend they aren't mooching off their neighbors.

They don't need to pretend. I'll never forget the time an acquaintance proudly told me that he had convinced social security to grant him benefits because he was disabled by a "bad back" and that he planned to celebrate by riding his $25,000 motorcycle to participate in a Frisbee Golf tournament.

What Ace is describing, private ownership with strict government control and mandate, isn't socialism. That is good old fashioned fascism.

Unfortunately it is hate speech to properly describe it, funny how that works.
