A free high school education for every American kid

I noticed this: Biden Florida Visit: College Degrees for Everyone.

I had to laugh at that, because America is still far from providing a meaningful high school education to the average kid:

The cheerful confidence in face of utter ignorance is the most impressive aspect of this video. You can either blame the schools, the parents, or simply accept that these kids simply are not interesting in knowing much. You can lead a horse to water...

These kids don't need college. They need remedial grammar school. As Black and Right says: "We fund public schools. I demand my money back"

Like most kids they're not interested in learning, all they want is to get someone to hand them whatever they desire for the rest of their lives without having to lift a finger, ever.
They're indeed also not interesting :)

I waited in vain for the one student who would argue there are fifty-seven states (not including Alaska and Hawaii), based on the presidential seal of approval.

For the first time I can be proud of the federal Department of Education.

Okay, so a bunch of the kids caught in flagrante ignorantiae may have treated the interviews as a joke, but not a single semi-serious scholar among the bunch?

The film's makers admit to editing the film for goofy answers. A film about mostly correct answers wouldn't have been nearly as entertaining.

I was aware that the video had been heavily edited for effect, but the question remains whether the "goofy" answers that made the final cut were offered as a joke or in all seriousness. If the latter, then how have these uninformed "students" managed to escape the concerned attention of their teachers for so long? I thought the day of social promotions was over now that federal funding of local schools and federal oversight was in place as part of No Child Left Behind.

Back in the 70s I had a college roommate who was aware of the Civil War, but did not know which side was the Yanks or Rebs or which was the blue or grey.

It didn't hold him back, he is worth over a million dollars today.

Teacher in a class of 26 students handing back a graded paper in math 2012.
"Well people, this is really bad, more than 76% didn´t pass and this was our second try."
A student´s reply: "...sorry, that can´t be right, we are not that many in math class."

Every time the idea of a free college education for everyone comes up I can't help but point out that I have no idea how much that education would cost.

I can, however, estimate its value.

Gotta admire the teachers unions. They set out to deprive students of critical reasoning and have succeeded. Now the sheep are ready for continual shearing.
Now, truly, America is a people of the government, by the government, and for the government.
