We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Thanks for linking to Walt Harrington's lovely article on W. I might have missed it otherwise. George W. Bush is a good, kind and decent man. My kind of people as well.

Excellent read. Thanks for posting this. He mentions that W read HR McMaster's book and talked about the strategy in Iraq that was his.
I served with HR McMaster when he was with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Irwin.
McMaster is a smart and sensible man and an excellent leader as well.
I have W's signature on my retirement certificate.
Barrister ... I feel the same way about George W.
The Bushes have a set of moral imperatives which are comfortable for me. I think that it may take ten years at least before the liberal nincompoops will have had their grip on our society loosened enough so that the beginnings of a fair assessment of Dubya's presidency can be made. I'm afraid I might not be around to see it, but I hope so.
We should start on this by encouraging the conservative journalists to speak up, and often, about the failure of the mainstream media to make even a stab at objectivity. Most of them feel that our newspapers should be fan mags for the liberal viewpoint.
If they want to write fan magazines, they should get out of the newspaper business.
Well put Marianne. I didn't always agree with either of the Bushes but there was no doubt about their sincerity and sense of honor. They (and their wives) are graceful in all situations. They are missed for more than that, though.
I find it interesting that the lamestream media likes to paint "W" as an idiot.
Well, in my opinion, anyone who reads that much (college grad or not) is pretty smart. I did the math, and that is better than a book a week... and he has been doing it for decades.
I think the biggest problem with the lamestream media is how unfair they treat any conservative. As most people grow older and wiser, most become more conservative. Why not the media?
Which is more flawed: Joe Biden saying "Let's write a check to Iraq for $100 Billion?" or Bush saying "Teddy write the education bill, let's be friends mmmkay?"
Bush, certainly in part because of his vastly greater influence, is a bigger dunce than Biden.
