We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Psychological "study shows" hypersensitive nuts are affected by Christmas trees. I accept that the themes of peace, joy, love, and giving to others may be tough for the diversity crowd which is drowning in angst and preoccupied with what they can get, but in an 80-90% Christian country, you ought to get used to a tannenbaum here and there. And after all, that tree is pagan anyway. German earth goddess or something.
What is it about Psychologists that they are always agonizing about the hypersensitive? Isn't their job to help people feel stronger, not more pathetic, victimized, and aggrieved?
And hey - where's all the Kwanzaa stuff this year? Perhaps the Kwanzaa cult quit their "ancient and beloved tradition" for diversity reasons, so others might not be "offended." I miss those 12 days of Socialism.
I can handle 12 days of it, but not years of it. If you give me years of it, I will quit working and let the Socialist suckers pay my bills. If they have jobs, that is.
Hey, Barrister dear ... About that "Kwanzaa stuff" you mention above. Take the word of your oldest reader, who remembers this fact clearly. Kwanzaa is a made-up holiday -- made up in the 1960s by black folks, to give them their own special holiday. As such, it has hardly had time to embed itself in Christian culture the Way Christmas trees, Jesus and Saint Nicholas etc. have.
Guess our darker brethren got tired of the same old/same old, and got upstaged by the Religion of Perpetual Outrage. Okay, okay, I guess you'll censor this comment, but i couldn't resist. I'll just go around, as I do every Christmas with a sweet smile, wishing everybody Merry Christmas. And that includes all Maggiesfarmers, who have given me so much pleasure and mental stimulation this past year.
My favorite Comedy Central show, "Futurama", did a send up of Kwanzaa in which the Kawanzaa Robot (Kwanzaabot) gave Hermes (a Jamaican crew member) and his family a lesson in Kwanzaa. Among other things, a book titled - "What The Hell Is Kwanzaa?" and the comment of Kwanzaa being an ethnic celebration created in 1965 because somebody was bored.
Very funny. And yes, they did a send up on Santabot who was programmed with a over developed send of "naughty" thus homicidal and Robonicah - a take off on Chanukah.
"they are always agonizing about the hypersensitive? Isn't their job to help people feel stronger, not more pathetic, victimized, and aggrieved?"
always thought it was the job of the psychologist to think up new mental illnesses for psychiatrists to diagnose and for pharma companies to sell placebos for to "cure".
People who feel good are not generally inclined to go see a shrink, so as a side effect it's the psychologists job to make people feel pathetic, victimised, aggrieved, weak, etc. etc.
